For me it's the Charlie Brown Christmas, followed by Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys as a close second.

    How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
With Charlie Brown Christmas coming in at a close second.

I've watched How the Grinch stole Christmas so many times that I can quote the movie. [IMG] I watch it all the time, not just at Christmas.

I think I would have to separate "Christmas specials" from "Christmas movies" on this one.

As far as Christmas specials go? "A Charlie Brown Christmas," hands down. The very simplicity of the animation, the children's voices, and of course the Vince Guaraldi music are irresistable! I love "Christmas Time is Here," and the jazzy "Linus and Lucy" theme. I love watching the kids and Snoopy skate on the pond, and watching the kids and Snoopy dance. [IMG]

Of course, the highlight of the entire special is Linus' lengthy quote from the KJV Christmas story in answer to Charlie's question of what Christmas is all about. I love that that gets repeated year after year on national television!

Christmas movies? "It's a Wonderful Life"! In fact, that's one of my all-time favorite movies, period. Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed are adorable, and I'll never stop being moved when George Bailey realizes he's alive and ZuZu's petals are in his pocket!

My seventeen year old daughter surprised me the other day by stating that since they 'finally' showed "White Christmas" ( a VERY old musical) on television that now we also needed to watch (we have the video) "It's a Wonderful Life" and THEN it would be Christmas!

I don't watch much TV now. But I remember I used to love the old Andy Williams Christmas specials. I remember having the same feeling my daughter does now about the two shows above -- when the Andy Williams special came on, THEN it was Christmas!

The very best is It's A Wonderful life, next has to be How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and we have to have Charlie Brown's Christmas. But we also watch every year A Christmas Carol (1950's version, and 1930's version).

It's a Wonderful Life outranks all by far.

    Then Jim Carrey's Grinch.

    1. Charlie Brown Christmas
    2. Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer

The worst Christmas "thing" I see on TV is that duet by Bing Crosby and David Bowie. Yuck!

"...that duet by Bing Crosby and David Bowie."

One of the most bizarre moments in music history. [IMG]

I think that special was taped in the summer of that year (1977?), Bing died in the fall, and the special was shown anyway in December. Bing should have retired!

I like the Bowie/Crosby duet. I will admit it hits you like a bolt from the blue the first time you encounter it, though. One thing David Bowie and Bing Crosby shared was the ability to redefine themselves as artists in new roles.

    Hi All,
We *have* to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" and we love to watch "White Christmas" but have a hard time finding when it is on.
We also like Lampoon Christmas, and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" which we often watch while we decorate the Christmas cookies! [IMG] yum!
I also watch Frosty but I really prefer the 2nd one in which Frosty has a wife (Mrs. Frosty?? :D ) Also Scrooged and Muppet's Christmas Carol or Mickey's Christmas Carol (because of Goofy!)...the original Christmas Carol was always too scary to me and I still can't get over that! ;)
    Hugs,

Oh, yeah, the Clark Griswold movie tears me up every time I see it, too.

When I said I don't have one, I lied. Forgive me. Am I bad or what? I like Patrick Stewart's A Christmas Carol(just watching it this week in school.) I recommend it. [IMG]
