Your favorite service

I've always enjoyed the midweek program -- service in the sense of worship sometimes, but always teaching, teaching, teaching. When I was a pastor I used the midweek service for all sorts of things -- Bible studies, Christian history studies, discipleship training, examination of moral issues, etc. Now that I am just another church member, I asked for and got the opportunity to offer an apologetics class, and find that not only intellectually stimulating (and the class members say that they do too), but also an occasion for creative worship.

I could, however, have checked "Other", in that as a pastor I found more latitude for creativity and more of a sense of being in the awesome Presence during the occasional liturgical services -- Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve.

 

Sunday evening. It is usually much more relaxed. We also have discipleship on Sunday evenings, and choir practice after the service.

I work nights, so I never get to go to the Wednesday evening service.

I checked other, Holy Eucharist on Easter Sunday is my favorite service.

 

I marked "Other", because the service I most enjoy is the one where God truly is in control. That could be any service, any time.

My favorite all-time memory of a service actually took place on a Sunday morning over thirty years ago. Seemed like God was there directing everything directly for one teenaged boy, including the Sunday School lesson, the music, the pastor's message, and a personal invitation to accept Jesus as Savior. I did!

Second favorite? An appointment to review her decision with a teenager who had accepted Christ during a "I Found It" phone call in the mid-1970's. She had invited her entire youth group to hear me tell them what I had told her on the phone! (Her dad was a youth minister, but she had never before understood what was going on. She wanted her friends to know as well. And all of this happened on a special Thursday -- Thanksgiving!) This night became a true worship service in a home.

I am a night person, but for some reason I prefer a morning service.
