Rather than side track another thread, I'll start this one. Personally, I do not believe Roman Catholics are Christians. From some of the posts on another thread, there seem to be some who think they might be. What do you think?

There are Christians among Roman Catholics, although Roman Catholicism itself is not Christianity.
You see, this depends on what a Christian means to you.
There are those who think a Christian is known by his behavior.
The Bible says that the first believers in the first century were called Christians derisively because they are followers of Christ or "The Way".
There are those who think that a Christian is one who has "accepted" Christ as his Savior, may or may not have been baptized by immersion or other modes, and may or may not have prayed that silly prayer called A Sinner's Prayer.
I believe a Christian is one whom Christ redeemed with His blood unto Himself, from being hocked to Satan by virtue of Adam and Eve's fall, such redemption being motivated by none other than mercy on the part of the Creator, and takes no consideration as to the earthly or timely religious, theological, or political affiliation of the redeemed, and having thus been redeemed belongs to Christ for eternity.
That being the case, His redeemed includes many among Roman Catholics, and other religions.

I believe there are Roman Catholics who are Christians. I also believe there are Baptists who are not.

I believe the Roman Catholic Church is a Christian church, although they have significant doctrinal errors.

Just as there are Catholics who are not Christians so there are Baptists. Both, can die and go to hell, believing in a works based salvation rather than by grace through faith in Christ Jesus.

Well of course it depends on how you define the term Christian. There are many that proclaim the name of Christ and are by their own definition "Christians" who are still lost.

BUT, if you mean saved, redeemed, born again, etc., then of course there are many Roman Catholics who are Christians although it may well be in spite of instead of because of the doctrine they are taught. As noted by others earlier there are certainly many Baptists who are not Christians for the same reasons.

One of the saddest verses in scripture to me is Matthew 7:22 where Jesus said

The idea that these people not only did wonderful works, but they also truly believed that they had been justified. Perhaps they had put their faith in their own works but the bottom line is that they thought they had a relationship with Christ when they in fact did not. Many Catholics and Baptists are going to fall into that category. Due to poor teaching or simply putting their faith in a denomination or their own good works they will have missed the salvation of Christ.:tear:

Why is it so popular at this site to so often feel the need to declare catholics non Christian.

Growing up most all my neighborhood or school friends were either catholic or Jewish so I was around it enough to form an opinion. IMHO I believe that yes, it is fairly easy for a person to not be saved and be comfortable as a member of the catholic church. Sadly I think many of their members fall through the cracks and don't realize it. But of course we know that also occurs across this country in churches of many denomination.

That said I believe there are catholics that are saved, and I think blanket statements judging others salvation based on a church membership are awful.

The RCC degenerated into a CULT long ago, having more MAN-MADE doctrines of worship than legitimate ones derived from Scripture. Many of these dox come from PAGAN sources, I. E. "queena hevvon"(Nimrod, Semiramis, & Tammuz) and the resta mariolatry, purgatory(Nebo of the Babylonians), indulgences, prayers to the dead, the corruption of the Lord's Supper, office of Pope & cardinal, the Pope's miter(Modeled after the headgear of the Philistines' fish-god Dagon), celibacy of their clergy, etc. etc. etc.

& their "oral tradition", ADDING to the commands of GOD.

"OREL TRADISHUN AINT WERF DA PAPR ITS ROTE ON."

Just as many Roman Catholics as Baptists are Christians. Being saved isn't about knowledge is it about receiving grace through faith.

So Catholic Doctrine and Baptist Doctrine lead to the same thing?? This is the end result of your statement.

I will take a firm stand that if you are practicing member of the RCC, and hold to all it's doctrines, partaking of the Eucharist, "eating" your "god", Mary as "co-redemptress", Papal infallibility, purgatory, Immaculate Conception, sinless Mary, perpetual virginity, Mary's assumption, her being Queen of Heaven, etc., then there is no way you are saved, nor a Christian. Frankly, I'm amazed by some of the replies. People, it is VERY IMPORTANT what you believe.

There are some who have trusted Christ and hold to those things out of ignorance, just as there are some Baptists who have trusted Christ and hold to extra-Biblical teachings out of ignorance also.

Then, since those are dogmas, by the RCC definition, they are NOT catholic.
