New Zealand Cricket has officially called off a tour here later in the year by Zimbabwe.

The Black Caps side is currently in Zimbabwe on a tour which the New Zealand government urged to be cancelled because of Robert Mugabe's political regime.

During the debate the government said it would not issue visas when Zimbabwe toured here in December - which left New Zealand Cricket no option but to officially call off the tour.

The West Indies are to play a third extra test when they arrive in February.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Martin Snedden says this will mitigate some of the financial loss they will suffer without Zimbabwe coming.

Sri Lanka are returning to play four one day matches postponed in the wake of the Boxing Day tsunami.

Regretfully, Harare will only change when a funeral occurs. Meantime, it would be just a matter of equality if Zimabawe's current rulers suffered the same isolation as the aparthied regime of South Africa.

It looks as if that is well and truly on the radar Squire. Hopefully the truth of what Mugabe is doing to his people will be made public and dealt with.

One cricket commentator was being driven back to the airport from there and saw people lining up for bread, and when the bread ran out they began beating people with sticks to disperse the crowds. Some democracy!

The problem is not that folks don't know what's happening in Zimbabwe. The problem is the "Front Line States" (as they used to be called back in The Day) are covering for Mugabe. Now that he has beaten back the white Zimbabweans, I am waiting for him to start blaming the countries ills on South Africa or Mozambique. He starts rattle with those countries and I see a short life ahead of him.

One of the main problems is that when he kicked the white farmers off their land and gave it to those that were black residents of Zimbabwe, they were not able to farm that land, and went and ripped out all the irrigation piping and whatever else they could sell for quick cash. Resultantly there are no farms and no food supply. The farmers that were kicked off the land were all paying considerable taxation, and now that income to the government has gone as well. Interestingly some of those farmers have been given refugee status in Australia, and a number are working the land here and doing quite well. Yet various african governments are advertising for Australian farmers to come and set up farms in various nations over there!
