Syria has begun dismantling the remains of a site Israel bombed Sept. 6 in what may be an attempt to prevent the location from coming under international scrutiny, said U.S. and foreign officials familiar with the aftermath of the attack.
Based on overhead photography, the officials say the site in Syria's eastern desert near the Euphrates River had a "signature" or characteristics of a small but substantial nuclear reactor, one similar in structure to North Korea's facilities

The dismantling of the damaged site, which appears to be still underway, could make it difficult for weapons inspectors to determine the precise nature of the facility and how Syria planned to use it. Syria, which possesses a small reactor used for scientific research, has denied seeking to expand its nuclear program. But U.S. officials knowledgeable about the Israeli raid have described the target as a nuclear facility being constructed with North Korean assistance.

Curious: If that's the case, why did the Dem's fight so hard to keep overseas serviceman's votes uncounted? Because they knew it would favor Bush decidedly. Points out that more Republican voters in service than Dems.

Why are American military personnel giving more money to Ron Paul's presidential campaign than any other presidential candidate's campaign. Points out that more limited government folks in service than big government Pubs and Dems.

Recent history tells a completely different story.

Young Conservatives fight the war while young democrats/liberals do everything they can to be sure we lose the war.

    No bias there...

You would not let me post an anonymous statement to prove my point, so I'm not buying this one.

I'm sure there's some egg on a lot of faces in the Bush administration, and Pelosi being brand new best buddies with Syria's leaders, well, I guess this doesn't make her look very good, either. Can't blame them for not wanting this to get out.

    This is opinion, not news.

And I have posted intelligence reports only to have them slammed as neocon propoganda. So I understand your frustration. But I believe it when Pat Buchanan & Tucker talk about it, and when I have read similar reports from several sources.

That's so true, Carpro, and meanwhile we - the good guys - just keep winning in Iraq and Afghanistan. The predicted civil war and collapse is now several years late in coming! Iraqis and Afghans continue to pick up the load and conduct many successful operations. We can't know for certain what will happen since that's up to the Lord but I remain encouraged and positive about our efforts and think we're still on the right side of this whole war. We need to give our leaders and our warriors a good round of applause for continuing to press the fight in spite of the often negative press and loud voices of those unhappy with our success both there and here at home as well as the repeat tours and family separations so many have endured. I hear and read many good stories directly from the warriors that make me real proud to be a part of them even though it's past my time to be there this time. Hopefully, it won't be necessary to take any action against Iran but, if it comes to that, I hope we'll demonstrate more unity in the cause than we have so far. That's exactly what our enemies need to hear from us and will go a long war to crushing their morale right. I pray for peace by success in the war on terrorism which I know will rage on for years more.

In what sense have we "won" in Afghanistan? How have we "won" in Iraq?

    Discussing Defeat in Afghanistan

    Discussing defeat in Afghanistan

Is it possible that NATO, the mightiest, wealthiest military alliance the world has ever seen, could leave Afghanistan defeated by the Taliban, a band of religious fanatics with an ideology harking back to the 7 th Century ? Europeans are arguing bitterly over whether the mission in Afghanistan is worth dying and paying for. And whether defeat in Afghanistan could bring an even more deadly version of 9 / 11-style attacks at home. During two days of talks just completed in the Dutch resort of Noordwijk, defense ministers from NATO countries discussed the future of the mission in tones that betrayed a sense of urgency bordering on despair.

In the Netherlands, whose troops are fighting in the most dangerous region of Afghanistan, the mission is gradually losing public support. Every time a Dutch soldier dies in Afghanistan the cry here to bring the troops home becomes louder. Many see the war as a distant battle with hazy goals, far removed from their daily lives. The sentiment is shared in varying degrees by the people of the 38 countries with troops in ISAF, the International Security and Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

In the sense of steadily and strongly defeating the enemy, giving much hope for the Iraqis and Afghans, and securing the long term peace for them and us. It's not completely "won" yet - there's a lot more to be done and it's a difficult struggle - but we have been and are winning.

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"

Or a whole nation for that matter?
