Don’t Be A Fundamentalist (Calvinist Or Otherwise)
Heresy can be what you believe, but perhaps just as often, heresy is the weight you give an issue you believe. “Fundamentalism” might be understood, in part, as too much weight given to certain aspects of Christian doctrine or practice (the word fundamentalism, historically, doesn’t mean that, but in common parlance that is how it might be understood). Some people give such enormous weight to minor issues that the gospel itself is obscured.
Calvinism is one such issue. We only have so much... -
Ready for Lent?
starts tomorrow!
Reformed Baptist theologian Timothy George urges a focus on social sins:
Social Sins in Lent by Timothy George
"Most often, the penitential disciplines of Lent focus on personal sins of greed and indulgence, with an emphasis on abstaining from some private luxuries and exercising a certain moderation in how we eat and drink."
Jesus' "focus was on something else...social sins...inhospitality, insularity, and inhumanity."
"Prejudice literally means to judge in advance. It... -
If you had to change your denomination, which would you choose and why?
This is a simple question intended to encourage Christian unity. Much time is spent on this forum arguing about why the other denomination is wrong. This is naturally understandable of course because this is an "Other Christian debate forum". However, I would like to use this post to come together to talk about what we think other denominations have right. I will begin.
If I had to choose a denomination, I would probably have to go with the Assemblies of God. I agree with just about all of... -
Roles of women
I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out roles of women in the church.
I know that, Biblically, leadership of men is obviously off-limits to us. I don't have natural leadership potential (I'm very reserved and have bad social skills), so this isn't as much of an issue for me, personally, as it is for other women, whom often try to fight against this clear Biblical mandate.
Yet there is nonetheless lots of debate as to how many other boundaries should be in place for women as well.... -
Islam - a counterfeit anti-christ, a weapon of fear/terror for the mind of the last days
Islam - a counterfeit anti-christ, a weapon of fear/terror for the mind of the last days
This thread is for all things Islam, in regards their own authentic source materials, and how we may be educated in regards what they believe, and in how to effectively witness to them, that they may be won to Christ Jesus [not 'Isa, a theological argument, not an actual person] and be saved, and delivered from darkness, and ignorance.
A brief history of Islam:

Non-Calvinist Theologians (resurrected thread)
Below is an OP from 2006. It's not mine. It was written by @bjonson.
I thought it was a good question for the C vs A forum. Maybe we can create an impressive list of Arminian scholars for him.
I'm hoping to learn much from this thread.
I am a layman, like most of the folks who frequent here, and I have never been to seminary. I'm hoping some who are better educated can assist.
When I think of biblical, solid theologians, I think of the Puritans (which includes Whitefield, Edwards, Owen... -
The Brain Injury that Spawned SDA
As a 9 year old child, Ellen G White took a severe blow to the head from a rock. She was in a comatose state for a period of three weeks. She later heard voices in her head, saw visions and smelled flowers. What they didn't know then that they do now is that frontal lobe injury explains all of her hallucinations.
Here is a report written by medical doctors: http://www.truthorfables.com/EGW Temporal Lobe.pdf
Ellen G. White --An obvious case of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy which is...
