SBC Faith and Message supports Calvinistic thinking
this is a quote from the SBC Faith and Message. (Southern Baptist Convention > The Baptist Faith and Message)
V. Salvation
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.... -
Explain about atheists to me
Ken Ham, President, CEO, and Founder of Answers in Genesis tweeted this morning an older article about why do atheists care? Now that has always puzzled me, and I am not sure about the answer. Ken Ham notes that atheists opposed him every step of the way on both the Creation Museum and the replica of Noah's Ark-- both in Kentucky, as you know. Why do they care? Explain it to me, please.
He concludes, "So why do these who so aggressively oppose Christianity care? They care because they... -
Author seeks Baptists and other Christians to interview for a novel
Hello all!
I am currently conducting research for a new novel about the afterlife. I would like many of my characters to be Christians from different denominations (including non-denominational).
To create respectful and accurate representations of Christianity, I would like to interview people whose faith background is similar to the characters I am creating. Interviews are conducted over the phone and usually last 1 - 2 hours. If you live in the Central Valley or San Francisco Bay area... -
No Scripture Challenge
Here you can state your position and discuss the doctrines you hold to, but you must do so without posting any proof text.
Examples:
Why are you a Baptist?
Why are you a Catholic?
Why are you a SDA?
Why are you none of the above?
Why do you believe or not believe in Faith Alone?
Why do you believe or not believe in OSAS?
How do you witness for the Gospel?
What is your definition of the Gospel?
Etc, Etc, Etc,
No Scripture quotes, only a Conversation. You may refer to what you believe the... -
Blinded Minds
I just saw an article in SBC Today. I will summarize:
John Piper, a well known Calvinist, points out that Satan "blinds the minds" of the lost. This is true. But why would there be a need to "blind their minds" to the Gospel, if sinners are already so "dead" that they already have "total inability"? -
The Redundancy of Satan in Calvinism
The Redundancy of Satan in Calvinism
By Leighton Flowers
From the article:
Calvinism’s doctrine of Total Inability suggests that all people are born as “spiritual corpses,” morally unable to see, hear, understand and repent even in response to God’s own inspired truth. But this seems contradictory to what some leading Calvinists teach regarding the impact Satan has in our world.
For example, in an article titled, “Satan’s Ten Strategies Against You,” Calvinistic Pastor, John Piper,... -
Confession, Repentance: discerning the truth.
In a near thread, repentance was mentioned, and I thought:
“I wonder if some on the B.B. consider them the same?”
At the dedication of Solomon’s Temple given, in 2 Chronicles, is this passage:
11Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD and the king’s palace, and successfully completed all that he had planned on doing in the house of the LORDand in his palace.
12Then the LORD appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for... -
Harmony?
@HankD wrote this in a previous thread:
We will never agree BUT we can be in harmony concerning our fellow man and God's forgiveness.
A song sung in harmony can be the epitome of beauty.
Both C and A know the importance of the salvation of human beings (apart from salvific methodology).
Both C and A have a history of participating in Great Awakening(s) with many souls added to the churches.
Both C and A have participated in the Great Commission to preach the Gospel, the fulfillment of the... -
Has Fundamentalism Lost the Gospel?
To all who have an ear:
I am not an IFB so I probably should not be even posting at this thread. But, I was raised with a "Bob Jones pastor" and was a Bus Pastor for years and years. I also, in the early to mid 1970s, attended many bus clinics where John R. (as I affectionately call him) and Jack Hyles et al spoke. So I do have experience enough to "have a dog in the fight" as it were.
In addition to my experiential credential, I have taught religion on the college and grad school levels... -
Seventh-day Adventists continued...
The original thread closed at a point where our SDA Bob Ryan was being pressed against the ropes to give an answer concerning SDA Sabbath keeping. He made a few attempts to deflect answering by posting rabbit trials hoping I would chase after them, but I will give him another chance here to prove his position on SDA Sabbath keeping as it relates to salvation.
Here is the yet to be answered question...(hint, the answer is either "yes" or "no")
Before you declare I am wrong, tell me, what...
