Baptist London Confession?
Merry Christmas to all:
I had a thought that I might do a little historical survey (please feel free to move this in needs be?).
Who here on the BB have;
1. Read the London Baptist Confession 1689;
2. Know of the London Baptist Confession 1689;
3. Know how it shaped the English Baptist or English Baptist shaped it and further the Theology of the early Baptists in American, especially those who were Particular Redemption.
I am sure that I will be disappointed with the survey. But, next... -
Is water baptism only a symbol and public profession?
If so, what about the Ethiopian eunuch? Why was he baptized immediately upon conversion? How was his baptism a public profession of faith, considering the location?
Maybe water baptism is more -- an initial act of faith? -
Belief in the Absolute Sovereignty of God and the Absolute Depravity of Man
Hello to all:
I was wondering if I could "stir the waters" a little by putting forth an assertion; that most Independent Fundamentalist Baptists I have been around (and admittedly that is a narrow scope); hate the Absolute Sovereignty of God in choosing in salvation and Absolute Sovereignty of Man when defined by someone who is a strict Particular Redemptionists; i.e.,T-U-L-I-P.
I propose that it is because:
1. They do not believe in the sovereignty of god but the "sovereignty of sinners"... -
Personality of Mary the mother of the Lord Jesus Christ
The purpose of this thread is to compare the indicators of Mary the mother of The Christ, to the typical stereotype of a Jewish woman.
Typically, a stereotype of a Jewish woman is one who is feisty, short tempered, perhaps vindictive, and mouthy.
They are more often portrayed as the ones who love to gossip, are shrewd in looking for bargains, and status oriented.
Generally, they appear to either be a helicopter parent or career oriented neglectful.
Taking all that into consideration, can... -
The New and True Exodus....In Jesus....Central Gospel Truth
A central theme in the OT. was the great redemption and deliverance in which God raised up a Mediator to lead His people out of bondage toward the promise land.
Moses himself spoke of another who would come;
15 The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
16 According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord... -

The Wise Men
When did the wise men visit Jesus?
When Jesus was 8 days old he was circumcised.
When he was 40 days old He was presented to the Lord in Jerusalem.
Then the family returned to Nazareth. Luke 2-39
The wise men came to Bethlehem but did not return to Jerusalem. Joseph, Mary and Jesus went to Egypt till Herod died then J,M & J returned to Nazareth. Matthew 2 1-16.
So how do these two accounts fit together? Did the family return to Bethlehem after The Luke account? -
Holiday or holy day
Rather then flinging the doors open and encouraging all to enter, how many will have shut their doors just as the inn keepers the night Christ was born
If any time is a glorious time to rejoice as even all heaven did that night, it should be the believers.
Rather, what will happen on Sunday night (December 24) at your assembly? Nothing?
Will we sit at home, waiting for Santa?
Gazing at lit trees, bounty provided, and wonder if the batteries were included?
Who will gather as... -
CALVINISM’S GREATEST FALLACY
Many Calvinists insist that all the heinous evil in our world must have been meticulously “brought to pass” or “decreed” by God otherwise it would prove (1) God has no purpose for evil’s existence or (2) He is powerless to do anything about it.[1]
For instance, Calvinistic scholar, Matt Slick states,
“…if someone were robbed and beaten, and yet God had no say in the crime whatsoever (for it was a free, uninhibited action based upon the criminal’s free will), then the person robbed would... -
The only consistent Calvinist is the one who does not believe in evangelism
Since they view God's sovereignty as being limited to absolute control of every thought and moment of men's salvation then there is no need to share the gospel. If God's wants them saved He will regenerate them without and help of man. God doesn't need nor want our help.
