The Meanings of 'For'
The word 'for' appears rather a lot in the New Testament, well over 1,000 times in the KJV and equally often, I think in many other versions.
I was interested to discover that there are 21 Greek words which the KJV translates as 'for.' Just in case anyone is interested, they are:
anti
apo
achri
gar
dia (a few times with the genitive, several times with the accusative)
dioti
de
eis
ek
en
heneka
epeide
epi (sometimes with the accusative, sometimes with the dative)
kai
kai gar
kata
hoti

Be Ye Holy, For I Am Holy!
This scripture has always perplexed me... How can I be holy?... But yet we see this verse among the other ones in first Peter
1 Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

Baptists should be biased and discriminate
Baptists should be biased and discriminate.
They should not be ashamed or fail to push back against the politically correct thinking that any position or standard that is biased or discriminates is wrong, an evil that needs expunged.
The Baptists are supposed to base all matters of both faith and practice (that includes living and manner of living) upon the principles of Scriptures. The Scriptures are supposed to be the absolute authority and final statement of belief and living.

Can We Talk?
There have been some pretty venomous posts lately, in this area. In fact, this subject is always hotly debated, but from what I can see, in general, the Calvinists are calm, cool, and collected, while the opposing side is anything but.
Since I spent the first 25 years of my Christianity as a default semi-Pelagian, I understand how difficult coming to grips with the sovereignty of God in election can be. I once threw the audiobook, Chosen by God across the room, I hated the ideas contained... -
Name A Church
If you were to have the authority to name a church, what might you use to identify it as both the assembly of believers and doctrinal view?
Some that come to mind is:
Master's Sheep Pen of Baptists
Faith Baptist Church
Believers Baptist Church
What might you choose? -
"Free Choice" - MB
I said:
So, if I understand you correctly, people hear the Word of God, and then they have a "free choice" as to is they wish to be saved or not. Is that correct?

"If My People..." A Promise God Never Made and A Prophetic Application Overlooked
"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14
This verse is, first of all - as it is often presented - a promise never made.
The implication of many American websites, sermons, books, posters, songs, and bumper-stickers is that if America, or the Christians in America, will seek God's face then He will hear their... -
Doctrine of the Trinity - Stated or Implied?
In a recent post @Martin Marprelate challenged me that the doctrine of the Trinity is not stated in Scripture but that truth is instead implied. My argument is that we do not make doctrine out of implication, but instead seek Scripture itself as our authority (anyone can say something is implied). I believe that the doctrine of the Trinity is stated in Scripture and systematically gathered into doctrine.
Here are a few (there are more) verses I believe demonstrates that God is Father, Son,... -
Particular, That Is Reformed Baptists
Someone said the following on a now-closed thread:
"I am not 'Reformed.' I am an Historic, Particular Baptist. Nothing 'Reformed' about me or what I believe."
I believe that this individual is confused or redefining words for convenience sake.
If one were to go back to historic Particular Baptists they were indeed Reformed, or Calvinistic Baptists. They would not have renounced those terms as applied to themselves.
Men such as Benjamin Keach ,William Kiffin, Nehemiah Coxe and Hercules...
