Theory of atonement, do you have one?
I am not giving full and complete details of every theory of atonement, but merely doing a very brief statement of a few just to allow the reader to get an overview of some highlights and tease some to think.
Generally it is accepted that the early church basically taught that there was some price owed to God or Satan which had to be paid in order for salvation to take place.
Personally, I consider such a ransom paid is basic extortion, and counter to the revealed character and nature... -
Is there a final authority?
When is something so unorthodox that it can be a heresy?
When does the pastor/teacher publicly denounce a view or thinking does not conform to Scripture?
For example:
To the Papist, any Protestant Church is heretical.
To the Protestant, the denial of ”Scriptures alone” is heretical - used to be.
To the Baptist, baptistim is a picture, but to the Church of Christ it is a must to attain.
To the Amillinialism folks, literal is in the eye of interpretation, to the classic... -
Worship
Does actual physical posture play a necessary role or any role in worship?
The last third, of the 14th chapter of Matthew, records the scene of walking on water.
Because most are very familiar with the account, it isn't necessary to restate the events.
The focus of the thread is what happened when the disciples worshipped.
The original word (translated worship) indicates the worship as one doing obeisance. Bowed with head against the flooring of the boat. Not dissimilar in posture... -
Can one live sinless?
This is a subject that separates many churches and even Christians within the same denomination. One's salvation can be at stake if he/she does not understand this subject well. Along with the subject thread here are four questions to tag with the subject:
1. Does God expect Christians to live a sinless life?
2. Does God expect Christians to live holy?
3. Does Jesus Christ expect a sinner to go on sinning until death?
4. Can a born again person live a sinless life? -
Hypostatic union
1God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.
This is one of three passages that actually use the word (hupostasis) in them.
What is His nature? -
The Great Flood
Was the Flood world wide or just regional ?
If only regional - to what extent.
What do you base your answer on?

Militarily speaking
Looking at armed conflict throughout history, it seems very little was ever truly accomplished.
Certainly, nations were defined (China - tribal groups united and the territory named for the first true uniting emperor), Greek and Roman city-states united into powerful nations, the U.S. colonies united into a central government to become a world power, and so forth.
However, looking at the broad spectrum of human history, nations have remained rather static with only minor adjustments to... -
Adult Sunday School
Apparently many churches are having Sunday School only for children - and is held during the Morning Worship.
Does your church have Adult Sunday School? If not when are adults able to have small group Bible groups?
Should Children's SS be held during the Morning worship service?

Baptists and doctrine/eschatology
I'm sorry that I did not get back to post in the thread about partial preterism and futurism before it was closed. But I have wondered for a long time why it is that many Baptists, claiming to be New Testament Christians, have adopted so many teachings that were only invented 200 - 500 years ago. I am especially perplexed that Baptists would adopt teachings invented by the RCC and Magisterial Protestants. Seems as if many Baptists are not as much New Testament Christians as they claim. -
Life verse, yours is.....
I have to admit that my life verse hasn’t always remained the same verse.
My Life Verse seems to be that verse or passage that encapsulates the need of my heart at the time. It may be direction, sustaining, drama, hope, .... but that need is always met completely by reliance upon God’s Word.
What about you?
Do you have a single life verse?
Have you also seen the need to change the verse over time?
