Christ made Sin?
There have been various thread discussing Penal Substitution in the past.
On one of those, when we were discussing 2 Cor. 5:21-- 'For [God] made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him'-- it was suggested that rather than Christ being made 'sin' (Gk. hamartia), He was made a 'sin offering.' I felt this was very unlikely because then the natural translation would be '.....Him who knew no sin offering to be a sin offering for us....' which is... -
The Way of the Master Moment throwing dust in the eyes
Dust in the Eyes (pp.166, WOTM Minute devotional).
By Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort
Most don't realize that we as a church have moved far away from Biblical evangelism. Many of today's preachers are merely motivational speakers. They present God as a divine butler. Rarely is there a reference to God's law and the nature of sin. But listen to AW Pink. He said "Without the preaching of the Law the preacher is building a house which will not stand; yea, he is throwing dust in the eyes of the... -
The Mark of the beast is around the corner!
Wisconsin company holds 'chip party' to microchip workers
If any of you have been watching the news as I watch NBC News almost daily I saw a story of a company in Wisconsin being the first in the US to microchip their employees! Chipping the employees is optional, but there will come a day when it will be mandatory for everyone, small and great, rich, and poor according to the Bible. No one will be able to buy or sell without the mark which will be 666. Eventually we will be a cashless... -
If God Decided To Save No One Would He Be Unjust?
Sunday School 101, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God", "All are born in Adam", "They are sinners from birth, telling lies".
If God never sent Christ, and never saved anyone, would you say He was bad? Is God just in sending sinners to Hell? Is that Justice? Why is salvation called "Mercy"? Mercy cannot be demanded, only given.
If God is just in sending sinners to Hell, and Mercy can't be demanded, then God could send every human to Hell, and we'd agree with Him that He was... -
Gospel reductionism
In the book Gospel Assurance and Warnings Washer speaks about gospel reductionism and says in a statement that millions sit in church pews unconverted because they answered the wrong questions. So out of curiosity how do you witness? Do you approach a man and ask him if he wants to go to heaven? And then he says yes and you then lead him in a prayer? Curious how you witness.
Imagine we are all in a seminary class discussing this book. -
SBC poll (and anyone else using the BFM2000): Do you practice this principle for the Lord's Supper?
The BFM2000 says of baptism (Article VII), "Being a church ordinance, it [baptism] is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord's Supper." [underlined added]
For those in the SBC and others who use the BFM2000 (or something w/ a similar statement), do you have this practice and made explicit in your church? Do your pastors before administering the elements give a note of who is expected or allowed to partake as according to the faith and practice of the church?... -
How does your church allow new teachers to start teaching?
In my Calvinist Baptist church the philosophy is much different than my wife's IFB church. At this church they have elders and are run that way. New prospects are given position papers to take home and fill out so the elders know where they stand. Then if qualified they allow them to start in the basics as a sub.
My old church as long as you were a member and the pastor liked you he gave you a shot to teach. The problem I had was not when I officially taught but when I did not teach. SS was... -
The Musings Of Mounce
I have appreciated the Blog of Bill Mounce for a long time : Monday With Mounce.
I will share some snips.
On 7/24/2017 he posed an article called Does Inspiration require every word to be translated? (Matt. 1:4)
"I suggest that authorial intent is discovered more at the phrase level (in most cases) than at the word level, and style is part of the communication process."
"...translating every word (which no one does with idioms) miscommunicates." -
The great battle against sin
Brother Paul Washer The Gospel Call and True Conversion pp. 12
On the other hand, regardless of the progress a believer has made in sanctification, even the most mature one will find the Christian life to be a great struggle against sin with frequent battles, great victories, and discouraging defeats.
Gospel Assurance and Warnings pp. 39
Third, the evidence of genuine conversion is not sinless perfection but a life marked by genuine repentance and confession.
Several times in the chapter... -
John R. Rice, Bob Jones Jr., and the “Mechanical Dictation” Controversy
Not so much for discussion (though some may want to read and discuss it), but this morning I found this journal article and thought some of you might want to read it:
John R. Rice, Bob Jones Jr., and the “Mechanical Dictation” Controversy, by Nathan A. Finn in The Journal of Baptist Studies 6 (2014).
"For all their demonstrable differences in applying biblical separation, Rice and Jones also split, in part, over a dispute about the nature of biblical inspiration. Jones and the Bible...
