Spiritual understanding - part 9
Where do we go from here? The most prolific poster on parts 7 & 8 posted 1-liners that did not contribute to understanding. We did reply to a number of these in the hope that he & others would read carefully & contribute positively.
However his approach was:
You can have theology given apart from the scriptures, as when I give my viewpoints, it is related th what is in the scriptures, its just that those holding to either pretierism or spirtualozing the scriptures would reject....

Sons of Disobedience
Many christians despise the Law of YHVH (several on this forum also - watch their evil replies). Here are some verses about these people:
Ephesians 5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of Elohim comes upon the sons of disobedience.
Titus 1:16 They profess to know Elohim, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.
1 Samuel 12:15 "If you will not listen to the voice of the YHVH, but... -
Widows
What proactive plans does your church have in regard to caring for widows?
I notice many churches generally have no plan and often assume that family members are taking care of mom's who have had their husband die.
Are we, the church, failing in God's command that we care for widows and orphans? -
The Flat Earth myth and the Bible.
Does the Bible teach that the Earth is flat? Did pre-scientific people really think that the Earth was flat? Watch Richard and Calvin debunk the Bible skeptics who misuse various Bible passages to suggest that the Bible says that the Earth is flat.

Calvinism and the SBC (a 2013 discussion between Hankings and Mohler)
"Theology and the Future of the Southern Baptist Convention" discussion with Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr. and Dr. Eric Hankins. I haven't seen it on this forum (and apologize if it's a repeat, it is several years old) but found it interesting.
For those who don't know or are not SBC, the discussion was over Calvinism within the SBC. One of the most interesting points, to me anyway, was Mohler's comment that so much of the "restless" in the "Young, Restless, and Reformed" may be a reaction to... -
Only liberal denominations die?
Scholar Diana Butler Bass says, "the SBC decline dispels idea that only liberal denominations die."
Bass said conservative religious denominations like Southern Baptists are now going through what liberal churches went through about 30 or 40 years ago. Is she right? Is this a valid observation? -
Questions Regarding Baptist Theology
As I stated in my introduction thread I have some questions regarding theology. They basically revolve around doctrines of transubstantiation and priestly confession.
1. Transubstantiation:
What is the Baptist view of Luke 22 19-21 and John 6:
"50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh,... -
How did David Kill Goliath?
I have always taken it that David actually killed Goliath with Goliaths sword. The KJV is not clear on the account, but the way I read it suggests that. I was reading the story to my son tonight in theNIrV. It plainly says he killed Goliath with the stone. NIV says same thing. NKJV implies both. CSB reads as if David killed Goliath three times.
The commentary seems to most universally say the stone knocked him out and the sword killed him, but some of the translations definitely don't say... -
What Did Jesus Teach?
This is a video taken from the sermons of Richard Rohr, A Franciscan Monk. Please feel free to comment if you think he is making valid points. I believe he is right there in his own commentary, But I'm not here to defend him, merely to seek truth.
