The Atonement: Which is The Bible's Teaching?
Recapitulation - Irenaeus (ca. 130-202) Christ recapitulated in himself all the stages of human life that related to sin. In this way he reversed the course on which Adam, by his sin, started humanity.
Ransom to Satan - Origen (ca. 185-254) Christ's death was a ransom paid to Satan for claims he had on man.
Satisfaction - Anselm (1033-1109) Christ's death rendered satisfaction to God's honor.

Funeral Hymns
When I read the thread title, "Hymns of Parting," I thought it was about songs for a funeral. Awhile back I started a thread which was about hymns used in parting at end of service, etc. MennoSota's comment made me think about starting a thread on funeral hymns.
There have been quite a few funeral hymns written. John and Charles Wesley even have a collection called Funeral Hymns (I'm sure others do as well). Sometimes these tend to be "specific" -- that is, written for a brother, sister,... -
QUESTION FOR MY REFORMED BROTHERS AND SISTERS, WILL GOD TAKE CARE OF US?
This is a very serious question, so your proper exegesis of the passages, or just general teachings that you know would be appreciated.
I'll cite two places; One Jesus says to His disciples in Matthew 6:26, Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
He talks about the lilies, how beautiful they are dressed, then makes a similar comparison.
The message is clear, 1. Do not worry... -
Right or wrong: Church to shield illegals!
Riverside church says it will offer sanctuary to immigrants at risk of deportation – Press Enterprise
I used to work a mere two blocks away from this church. It is one of Riversides oldest churches, and its building is a historical site.
The reason for this OP, is to secure your opinion of their open invitation to illegal residents in an effort to shield these people from deportation. This is a church that is as far left as possible, because they also open their doors to the LGBTQ... -
Witnessing to Jews
I have sent letters to Jewish temples before only to be ignored. So I got a better idea and that is to build a relationship through email, and usually emails are not ignored. But I am not all that familiar with Judaism. What type of questions should I ask them? How should I engage them with the gospel? I could pull out my copy of More than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell but I seriously doubt they would read the book, or engage in the evidences presented. -
Poll: Your view of tithing and giving
As we have recently had a new thread which brings this subject up again, and expectedly with the same contentions, I am posting this new poll about your views on the subject. Law and Grace are capitalized as properly naming the 'system' of right standing with God we are 'under.' -
Willful Sin Kills You
Most christians teach against obeyin the Father. This is a great heresy that has eternal consequences.
Num 15:29 ‘For him who does whatever by mistake there is one Torah, both for him who is native among the children of Yisra’ĕl and for the stranger who sojourns in their midst.
Num 15:30 ‘But the being who does whatever defiantly, whether he is native or a stranger, he reviles יהוה, and that being shall be cut off from among his people.
Num 15:31 ‘Because he has despised the word of... -

"The kingdom of heaven is at hand."
When John the Baptist made his public appearance, the kingdom of heaven was the theme of his preaching (Mt. 3.2). It was also the substance of what Jesus and his disciples preached (Mt. 4.17; 10.7). It is, therefore, very important. What did they mean that the kingdom of heaven was "at hand?" Many interpret the phrase as a temporal indicator. For example, the Dispensationalists claim that the kingdom of heaven was at hand temporally speaking, but because the Jews rejected Jesus as the... -
