Church members who have not been attending
Reformed Baptist stated in another thread (post # 8) " there are churches with memberships in that massively out number their regular attendance - that isn't right, that is a schism in the body (all those in nonattandence should be removed from the membership).
So lets talk about that - How long should pass before a church dismisses a member - or should they be put on an inactive list.
How about a military member who does a three year tour of duty overseas - what status should he be.... -
Corporal punishment
In the old days they would whip lawbreakers. Today even spanking your own kids will soon be a crime in all states. Do you think this form of punishment works? The humanistic wisdom of today would say no but is this true? Were people more respectful of laws and authority in the 17th century? The old west? Opinions... -
Hebrews 8-- no 'old covenant'
The old covenant which is mentioned in Heb 8:8-13. The one that was fulfilled by Jesus Who inaugurated a new and living way, a new covenant. The new covenant is the one that few seem to find...
"You search the scripture because you think that in them you have eternal life, yet it is these which speak of Me but you are unwilling to come to Me that you may have eternal life." And also, "The one who comes to Me, I will certainly not cast out."... -
How to make disciples
I argue that in order to see disciples a disciple has to get saved first. At our church we have men's discipleship but its meant for christians. My critics like to criticize me for not being able to make disciples, but not once that I can remember have they offered me a "How to guide" on how to make disciples given that I work usually 6 days a week. The REASON I street preach, talk with the lost (not once did I say you cant obey the Great Commission by just talking with the lost), pass out... -
Election, Predestination and Scripture
In another now closed thread, Mr. Davis wrote:
Brother Van,
Thank you for your exegesis of Romans 8. You were very thorough. It's very important to hear what someone believes in their larger interpretation of Scripture.
My Church is Baptist and non-Calvin. The doctrine of Eternal Security (OSAS) is taught. Isn't this really Point 5 of TULIP, and what Sproul calls the Preservation of the Saints? Didn't God elect the individuals in the "target group" in what Ephesians 1 says, from before the... -
Is Evangelism a Spiritual Gift?
In another thread there was some reference to whether evangelism (and discipleship) was a spiritual gift. Also the other side of the coin being that it is a command rather than a gift. That piqued my interest, since just a few days ago I read a post at SBC Today titled Evangelism Is Not A Spiritual Gift.
Some excerpts:
The belief that the Holy Spirit bestows a “gift of evangelism” upon a select, exclusive group of believers to carry out the work of evangelism is gaining increasing... -
The Three-Fold Division of the Law
There have been some rather weird postings on this board just recently suggesting that Christians are still liable to keep the Ceremonial and Judicial parts of the law of Moses. At the same time, some folk seem to be of the opinion that the Moral Law of God has no relevance to believers. I wrote an article on this subject on my blog some time ago. It can be found at The Christian, the Law and Christ What follows are some extracts from that blog post.
The Ceremonial Law comprises all... -
Letter to a Greek Orthodox Church
Many have criticized my writing of letters to false churches. Well then let's have you write one. I will also include some tracts but the letter is what will get read and the tracts may be tossed without ever being read so it's important to write a winning letter. -
Has Hank Hanagraaf left the faith?
He recently joined the Greek Orthodox Church. But as far as I can tell he still holds the essentials of the faith and is a strong brother in the Lord. I do not know much about the Orthodox Church nor have I recalled mailing one of their churches in Denver a letter. I only write up false churches needing to hear the gospel. Or am I deceived? Is the Greek Orthodox Church sound? When I mean sound do they affirm the essentials of the faith? They are not Baptist and probably use alcoholic wine in... -
Revisiting Isaiah 7:14
The birth of Jesus Christ came about this way: After his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant from the Holy Spirit. So her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her secretly.
But after he had considered these thing, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived...
