In the thread about "Reverend" DHK said
"Just out of curiosity, if you are trying to raise your children to respect their elders and one or two of the middle-age women refuse to be called by Mrs. or Miss, but still want to be called by their first name--even by your toddlers, and pre-teens what do you do? You don't want it. You want to teach them always have respect to their elders by giving them some kind of title (Mr. Mrs., Miss, Ma'am, Sir). How do you counsel your children in that...
By far, the Church’s most important Doctrine is "Inspiration/Preservation", simply because every other Doctrine is in danger, if we can be moved away from Inspiration/Preservation.
Therefore, why are so many people here so surprised, that my main thrust on this site, is to defend Inspiration/Preservation!?!
At every turn, my arguments are attacked and labeled “KJBO lies”, when I keep making it clear, that for me the issue isn’t the KJB, but...
Common English Bible (CEB)
Look, he is coming with the clouds! Every eye will see him, including those who pierced him, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of him. This is so. Amen.
Futurists look at this verse and believe that Christ will roll back the skies and fly down from heaven and every person will see him with their own eyes. To them it is assurance to hold on to that Christ will return in a literal, physical body to take the Saints home or rescue...
Please consider the following scripture:
(Psa 111:9) He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
The word reverend here clearly refers to the Lord.
Should we use the word reverend when referring to a minister?
1Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and...
It seems to me one of the greatest problems of this culture is a lack of knowledge- particularly historically and theologically speaking.
The result of this is, it appears to me, a total depreciation of the Historic Christian Faith.
This, once again- to me, seems to be horrifically, abominably arrogant. It manifests itself in statements like: "I don't follow men- I FOLLOW JESUS!" and "I don't CARE what men have said; I go with the BIBLE!" and my favorite: "The Bible says that we have no...
Unfortunately there are some of the shallower sort who incessantly regurgitate the same old assault- that Calvinists follow a man and not the Bible even though Calvin was one of the greatest men of the Bible who ever lived; a fact agreed upon by theologically literate people of all stripes (at least all Protestant ones).
So I thought I'd share a quote from Jacobus Arminius on John Calvin:
Arminius: "I affirm that he excels beyond comparison in the interpretation of Scripture, and that his...
