Calvin on Regeneration
Greetings board, fellow brothers and sisters in Christ,
I need some clarafication on this;
I have a brother in Christ in my church that is a believer in Calvin's theory of Unconditional Election. He claims that Calvinist do not believe there was a regeneration before the glorification of Jesus Christ, but that all even those before the coming of Christ were saved through the drawing of the Spirit, but not through regeneration.
So what is it officially?? Or is there a squable between... -
Clergy Killers
Check out: BETRAYED | About Has anyone else been getting the emails about this movie? I haven't seen it, but it looks like it would be worthwhile for a pastor to watch and maybe even show to the church.
When I was a boy, my Dad was "fired" as a pastor in TN by "clergy killers" at the height of his ministry. He was seeing folks saved left and right, we were running 200 and were running a bus out to the Naval Air Station for sailors and seeing... -
Can we conclude that Calvinism is a relatively NEW doctrine?
A survey of the teachings of the Early Church Fathers (ECFs) reveals that they promoted a more 'synergistic' approach to salvation and the concept of free will (quotes to be provided). What is evident (to scholars from both perspectives) is that Augustine was the first of the ECFs to teach the more Reformed ideas (not until 400 AD). And even Augustine admitted he didn't know Greek, nor did he seem to consistently support the Calvinistic concept of Limited Atonement or Perseverance.... -
Monergism vs. Synergism
The "How we label ourselves" thread resulted in a lot of good material for further discussion. As a believer in the Doctrines of Grace I prefer not to be called a Calvinist; mainly because Calvin believed in infant baptism and Presbyterian ecclesiology. However I cannot deny that Calvinism is the most commonly used term to describe all who hold to the Reformed view of soteriology. Arminianism is the most commonly used term to describe those who do not hold to the Reformed view of... -
Which bible do you trust?
I have become aware of a conspiracy, that is attacking the foundation of Christianity. This movement, is trying to destroy our confidence in God’s Word.
Some of you are probably waiting for the other shoe to drop. The title of this post is, “Which Bible do you trust?”, and you are waiting for me to tell you what I think it should be. Well I am not.
The truth is, the only Bible that can be trusted, is the “one” that you are using. Whether it is a KJV, NKJV, ASV, RSV, NASB, etc, isn’t... -
How important is the KJB?
There are three answers to this question....
(1) It’s not important at all.
(2) It is somewhat important.
(3) It is vitally important!
To the unsaved individual, it is not important at all, because all they need is the Gospel.
To the lukewarm and indifferent Christian, it is also not important, because they don’t study the Bible anyway.
Now to the growing Christian, it is somewhat important, because they should to have a Bible that is nailed down as being “God’s Word”, in order to... -
Why the Doctrines of Grace is not Determinism
Let me start by saying that there is a doctrine that fits the Determinist label. It is called Hyper-Calvinism. Hyper-Calvinism is as much the enemy to the Doctrines of Grace (for the purpose of this post, a.k.a. "Calvinism") as is any of the free will positions; with Arminianism being the most popular term used.
Hyper-Calvinism starts with the same premise as the Doctrines of Grace: to exalt God's sovereignty. It errs because it "stresses the sovereignty of God by over-emphasizing... -
Pulpit in the Middle
Every now and then I have visted a church that has the pulpit on the side of the platform, as opposed to being in the middle.
If you ended up becoming the pastor of such a church, would you want to put the pulpit in the middle?
Is it a hill to die for?
Other thoughts? -
How about this for a proof text?
Will the Calvinists say to the One who made the Arminian, 'Why did you make him that way?' But who are you, O Calvinist, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make him like this?' Does not the Potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for Arminian purposes and some for Calvinistic use?
