MMOTW, what makes the most perfect being of them all?
Basically, we all think that God is the most perfect being possible or we may say that the perfect being is the one that possesses maximal greatness. We might all believe in the principle that God is the most perfect being, yet it seems apparent that we disagree on what it means or what it looks like for someone to be the "most perfect being possible' or 'maximally great'.
In your opinion, what are the properties/characteristics that would be necessary in order for a being to be the most... -
A little sampling of church history is in order
I present this for those who have been silently following the threads on cessationism.
As such, none of you are expected to respond, which is A-OK.
Following are the comments of some well-known Christians from the history of the church:
Justin Martyr (a.d. 100-165) boasted to the Jewish Trypho "that the prophetic gifts remain with us"
(Dialogue with Trypho, 82).
Irenaeus (a.d. 120-200) also bears witness to the presence of the gifts of the Spirit. He writes:

Do Muslims/jews/Christians Worship same God?
As some in the church today seem to be advocating just that! -
To call sinners to repentance ! Pt 1
Lk 5:32
I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
1 Tim 1:15
15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Many today who are false teachers, have taken this text to mean that Christ died for everybody in the world [because, all are sinners by nature] and now He beckons everyone without exception to repent of their sins and to accept Christ as their Saviour; however that is... -
Three days and three nights
Whenever the three days and three nights of Matthew 12:40 is brought up in a "discussion" with 6th day crucifixion folks, they frequently argue that it is a Jewish idiom for counting any part of a day as a whole day. I wonder if anyone has documentation that shows that the phrase "x" days and "x"nights was ever used in the first century or before when it didn’t include at least parts of the "x" days and at least parts of the "x" nights? -
How much gnostic & neo-platonic thinking has influenced your theology?
Seriously. Have you ever thought about? It is easy to claim to get your theology from Scripture. But when you compare your interpretation of Scripture w/ these influences, it is quite scary.
Example, I hear so often about how they look forward to going to heaven and heaven is their home and etc. Most typical pew-sitter has the idea that to get away from this world and spend eternity in heaven is the goal. But the goal is not a bodiless existence it is a resurrected existence. The... -
What does Baptist mean now?
Hi All,
Salty made a good post on changing the names of Baptist Churches. This has struck my interest. Are the Baptist churches in your neck-of-the-woods the same as they were 30 years ago. I live in Southeast Missouri and I remember back in the 70s and early 80s, we had several Baptist churches with about 200 members on average that were very conservative and traditional as Baptist's go. Several of these churches hardly bring in 40-50 at weekly services now. Most of the towns here now... -

Ashamed of being a Baptist
Many churches are using "Bible", "Christian", ect instead of Baptist.
Many individuals don't like to tell folks they are a Baptist.
Is it a matter of being as ashamed or what? -
John 3:18 believers versus unbelievers
Jn. 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Here are some facts that cannot be denied if one is honest with this text:
1. There are only two types being compared - believers versus unbelievers - NOT ELECT VERSUS NON-ELECT
2. Jesus is speaking of the PRESENT TENSE condition of both types as the verbs "believeth" and "is" are present tense verbs.
3. One...
