Please Explain the Woman, the Child, and the Wilderness in Rev. 12
Rev. 12
...And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born.
5 She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne.
6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.

Why don't Baptists believe in the literal interpretation of the ENTIRE Bible?
It amazes me how most Baptists claim to believe the literal interpretation of the Bible, but in actuality they only believe literally the verses that agree with their doctrines. We Lutherans and many other orthodox Christians believe the entire Bible literally.
For instance, when the Bible says:
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved."
We believe exactly what that verse says: If someone believes on the Lord Jesus Christ, he will be saved. He doesn't need to be... -
Is there any historical evidence for the Baptist position on Baptism?
As a Lutheran Christian I have had numerous debates with Baptists and other evangelicals regarding the doctrine of Baptism. Lutherans and most other orthodox Christians believe that baptism is regenerational--we are saved in our baptisms.
To be clear, we do not believe that there is something magical about the baptismal water that saves us. Neither do we believe that it is our decision, or the decision of our parents, to be baptized that saves us. We believe that we are saved by the... -
Violence in movies
Saw the big movie tonight with a bunch from the singles class. No question the violence and realistic violence was far more severe than the older Batman movies. Val Kimmer & George Cloony's batman's were more comic than realistic, the 2 by Michael Keaton were darker and more violent, but nothing compared to what I saw tonight. I do not know for certain if James Holmes was mentally ill and devils were speaking to him, or if he did this all on his own without the aid of devils. Based on what... -
Revelation 19 & 20
In response to a post questioning the validity of dispensationalism agedman asked me to present my interpretion of Revelation 19:1-20:10. The request was unusual and impractical on a forum such as this but! I have responded to agedman in three separate posts on that particular thread [Prophecy fulfilled today! Jesus is coming soon.] but in fairness to evangelist6589 I think it best to start another thread.
I apologize to one and all for the length of these posts but agedman was so... -
Where is the Gospel in Acts 2 as the Calvinists preach it?
Act 2:14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.
Act 2:15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.
Act 2:16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:
Act 2:17 "'And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters... -
Who is the first Israeli?
A. W. Pink, in the articles compiled into "A Biblical Refutation of Dispensationalism," asserts that Abraham was a Gentile.
Who do you consider to be the first Jew?
Isaac?
Jacob (whose name became Israel)?
One of the twelve sons? -
Need some help. Old folks. Dwindling church.
Background story:
I'm a member of an SBC chuch. To make a long story short, the SBC church in my hometown has dwindled down to 10 very old people. They have no more pastor. No deacons. 2 men. 8 women. One of the men is (was?) a very old retired preacher and is in the hospital.
Our church has 3 men who can preach besides our Pastor and about 150 people on a Sunday. So in the short term, we're helping with pulpit supply. I preached there last week. One of our preachers will go... -
Free will is unimportant in the grand scheme of things
Freedom is not that important to God (at least freedom defined as the power of contrary choice). We will not have the power of contrary choice throughout all of eternity once we leave here.
If this "free will" thing even exists at all, it is clear that it is a very temporary, fleeting thing. For each human being, if he EVER has it, he only has it for a few years down here and then it is gone forever.
It is not that important. God himself does not have it (if you define it as the power of... -
Good Debate
Skandelon and I were having a good debate when the thread was closed.
I'd like to pick it up here. The quotes are mine. The unquoted statements are Skandelon's.
