If SBC Local Churches Could Take a Poll........
If SBC local churches could take a poll of the majority of their respective congregations, what percent would be majority Calvinistic, and how many would have a majority non-Calvinistic?
It seems since the famous letter was formed by the well oiled leadershp at the SBC, and the response from the radio entertainer opposing the letter, that the emphasis has been on denomination, not local church. Since the SBC has no governing authority, and is merely an association of local churches, the... -
Discussion of the first article of the "affirmations" and in particular Psalms 2
In the first article, the framers used Psalm 2 as a proof of "God’s desire for every person to be saved."
I thought I would begin by showing how one of their proofs was taken completely out of rational application.
Psalm 2:1-12;
1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their... -

Articles of Affirmation and Denial
Article One: The Gospel
We affirm that the Gospel is the good news that God has made a way of salvation through the life, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ for any person. This is in keeping with God’s desire for every person to be saved.
We deny that only a select few are capable of responding to the Gospel while the rest are predestined to an eternity in hell.
Genesis 3:15; Psalm 2:1-12; Ezekiel 18:23, 32; Luke 19.10; Luke... -
Al Mohler's response to SBC Statement
Just thought I'd post this...I hadn't seen anyone else link to it yet:
Southern Baptists and Salvation: It's Time to Talk - AlbertMohler.com
It is my opinion that Dr. Mohler has given a very wise and gracious response to the statement. What do you think? -
Pentecostalism
The thread on the baptism in the spirit prompted me to begin this thread, and also the thread started by the guy sharing his testimony of the same.
Many years ago, I attended a charismatic church briefly. It changed my life -- but not in a good way; I won't go into that, however.
How do we interpret the experiences of those who claimed to have undergone a spirit baptism subsequent to conversion and spoken in tongues as evidence of same? In reading some histories of the Pentecostal... -
What is the “New Calvinism”? . . . And Are You a Part of It?
The “New Calvinism” is not essentially a new form of Calvinism. Theologically, it is not really any different. Well, I take that back. The New Calvinist’s do all accept the five points of Calvinism as well as monergistic regeneration and have a very high view of the sovereignty of God which, I would argue, is the bedrock of traditional Calvinism. I will get to the differences in a bit.
“The New Calvinism” is simply a designation given for the 21st century resurgence of Calvinism among... -
SBC President Moves to Quell Firestorm
Actually, SBC President Frank Page started this process a couple of days ago, I just missed it. And I haven't ready anything here about his statement to Baptist Press:
Frank Page, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee, said he chose not to sign the statement.
"Southern Baptists have always found a way to work together, within the framework of historical Christian faith and Baptist doctrine, to support and promote our cooperative enterprises of global... -
