Nelson NKJV Study Bible
I've got one coming in the mail. Our pastor uses the NKJV and I guess I'm ready to retire my beloved KJV Study Bible. I ordered the first edition since I like the words of Christ in red (just my personal opinion) and the second edition doesn't have them in red. Anyway, I'm looking for your opinions on this Bible. Anyone have or use one? Thoughts on the NKJV itself? -
Men Hitting Women: Why I Can't Tell Them To Stick It Out!
After looking at this photo, can anyone in all honesty, say they would counsel a women to stay in an abusive marriage?
I removed the photo, because it took us to a FB page, and there were some graphic comments made in respose to the pic. I wanted to just transfer the pic, but it didn't do as I wanted. Sorry, but I have not mastered the art of getting images to transfer to the board forum page.!!
However, the topic remains. After I'd go to the ER, hospital, or their home and see the... -
Calvinism, God's Mercy
I have many Christian friends. Some are Calvinist and some believe one can lose their salvation. On these points we disagree. But I respect them and love them all dearly, they are wonderful Christian brothers.
I like reading John Piper, a Calvinist brother in Christ. So I was reading something he said in a sermon titled "The Absolute Sovereignty of God: What is Romans 9 About". In this he said something that enlightened me about Calvinist and this is why I titled this thread Calvinism,... -
Faith plus 'Works'. Do we have it Right?
When Paul wrote warning about those preaching 'another gospel' and 'another Jesus' other than that which they had received he was dealing very specifically with Jewish 'teachers,' or 'rabbis' who were trying to subvert the Gospel of Grace by explaining why those believers (Jews and Gentiles) needed to not only believe on Jesus but had to obey certain "foundational doctrines" of the Jewish Law.
Much of what they taught would go something like: "Jesus as Messiah is good. His blood did what no... -
Former coach of the year fired from Christian school for out-of-wedlock pregnancy
In an incredibly bizarre situation that appears headed for a legal challenge, a Dallas-area volleyball coach and science teacher was fired by the Christian school at which she worked for becoming pregnant before being married.
As first reported by Dallas Fort Worth network WFAA, Rockwall (Texas) Heritage Christian Academy volleyball coach and science teacher Cathy Samford was fired during the fall semester after she became pregnant out of wedlock. Samford had led the volleyball program for... -
Spiritually dead, yet not guilty?
On a now close thread a poster stated one can be born spiritually dead, separated from God...yet not guilty, and also be spiritually dead without being a sinner.
The purpose of this thread is to discuss how this is possible, it is NOT do defend or refute Augustinianism. I'm curious how these concepts can both be supported from Scripture. The moment Adam violated God's law he was guilty, a sinner and spiritually separated. -
Mental assent vs. Understanding vs. Acceptance
In several discussions regarding man's ability to 'understand' spiritual things these three concepts are thrown around almost interchangeably. I'd like to know what you all believe is the difference, if any, in these three terms:
Mental Assent
Understanding
Acceptance
Also, is it possible to have mental assent without understanding? If so, what does that look like? Explain the difference.
And is it possible to understand something and not accept it? Please explain. Is... -

Christ as Authoritative or Loving?
In the Gospels, should a translation portray Christ as authoritative or loving?
Japanese has several levels of politeness. The boss of a company, the police chief and others with similar authority will speak on a plain level. Having Christ speak like this would give Him an air of authority, and we know that "He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes" (Matt. 7:29). A Japanese master of a traditional art (martial arts, flower arranging, tea ceremony) would usually speak... -
