What would be a good song to sing at my husband's ordination?

May I ask why this song was sung? It just seems gloomy for an ordination.

    Gloomy??

"My sin, oh the bliss, of this glorious thought, my sin - not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more. Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, oh my soul"

Sung at my ordination as well.

I also like "Who am I" as an option.

The songwriter's story is a very tragic story.

Thanks for those suggestions, and keep them coming!

He wants me to do a solo prior to the charge, as well as a trio with one of the pastors on his council and his wife. He is also required to select the congregational hymns for the service (I think 2 or 3).

I know the story - hardly gloomy, but a picture of always abiding in Christ no matter what. A great lesson and reminder for a man going into the ministry.

What kind of music do you all like and prefer happy wife?

    My favorite song:wavey:

Besides that.. accepting the call of God is not one of happiness all the time, and we have to be content with what God gives us.

Therefore, from the beginning of my ministry, I have always been satisfied with the path God has laid before me...

And I can honestly say, "It is well with my soul"

BUT... I like the song, "Who am I" Also..
It just wasn't around when I was ordained. :tonofbricks:

Mine too! Going through all he went through and still saying (more likely shouting) It is well with my soul! Wow! that's a testimony!

We are very conservative in our music.

I love "It Is Well With My Soul," and I will present that suggestion to my DH!

Is "Who Am I" the one that starts out "When I think of how He came so far from Glory..."??

    Who Am I

    by Casting Crowns

    album: Casting Crowns (2003)

    Who am I?
That the Lord of all the earth,
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt.
    Who am I?
That the bright and morning star,
Would choose to light the way,
    For my ever wandering heart.

    Bridge:
Not because of who I am,
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done,
But because of who you are.

    Chorus:
I am a flower quickly fading,
    Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,
    A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
    I am yours.
    I am yours.

    Who am I?
That the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love
    And watch me rise again.
    Who am I?
That the voice that calmed the sea,
Would call out through the rain,
And calm the storm in me.

    I am yours.

    Whom shall I fear?
    Whom shall I fear?
    'Cause I am yours.
    I am yours.

Yes, that is also "Who Am I"

Who am I that a king would bleed and die for?
Who am I that He would say "Not my will, Thine" for
The answer I may never know
Why He ever loved me so
That to an old rugged cross He'd go, for who am I?

This one is the southern gospel style and the other one that was mentioned earlier is a little more contemporary

**LORD, I WANT TO BE WHAT YOU WANT ME TO BE**

Lord, I don't want to do one thing on my own,
Put me where You want me, Lord, that's where I belong,
Give me the strength, Lord, to do Thy perfect will
When I'm in the lowest valley, I can climb the highest hill.

    Chorus:
Lord, I want to be what You want me to be,
Lord, I want to do what You want me to do,
Lord, I want to stay in the center of Your will,
When I'm in the lowest valley, I can climb the highest hill.

This world gets more wicked every day,
Peoples's hearts have grown cold, forgotten how to pray,
If I live to be a hundred, I'll keep holding your hand,
Until You come to take me home to that Promised Land.
    Chorus:

I just came across the lyrics to this song, and it seemed appropriate. I've never heard it, but it's by Ray Boltz, and I like most of his music.

    I've Come To Serve

[FONT=Courier New, Courier, mono]The disciples were assembled
    in the upper room,
    They didn't know that Jesus
    would be leaving very soon,
    They talked about His kingdom
as they readied for the feast,
    Who would be the greatest,
And who would be the least.
One said if there's a greatest,
    I hope I'm the one,
    Others talked of miracles
    they had seen and done,
    No one noticed Jesus
as He rose up from His seat,
    Till He knelt before them
and began to wash their feet.
    Chorus
    I've come to serve you,
    I've come to serve you,
And if you know my Father's love
the way you say you do,
Then you will serve each other too.
I wish I could have been there
to see the look on each man's face,
    A single act of service
puts us all back in our place,
But though we're called to minister,
And do miracles in His name,
Remember when you're sent by Him
    the reason that He came.
    Chorus
    Chorus
Yes you should serve each other too.

If you are very conservative then the "Who Am I" being discussed probably would not suit you. It is an amazing song though :).

BTW folks "It is Well With My Soul" is also my favourite song of all time by far - so favourite that I can't even sing it without crying :).

"The Voice of Truth" is another more contemporary song that would do at an ordination.

Here is another song along the same line, not nearly as contemporary as "Who am I" by Casting Crowns. Personally, I think it is very appropriate for an ordination service, taken from God speaking to Jacob in Genesis.

If you are not familiar with this, you can hear the tune at http://my.homewithgod.com/heavenlymidis2/here.html

I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
    My hand will save.

    Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

I, who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
    Whom shall I send?

    Chorus

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them.
    They turn away.

    Chorus

I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my words to them.
    Whom shall I send?

    Chorus

I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will send the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
    My hand will save.

    Chorus

    Finest bread I will provide,
    'Til their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
    Whom shall I send?

    Chorus
