Cracker Barrel’s Rural Roots Music Fest

Posted By Brance On 30th June 2008

Bluegrass artists are having an increasingly difficult time finding retail outlets for their recorded works. Wal-Mart is all but inaccessable, and the brick and morter record shops are closing faster than a lick from Johnny Butten’s banjo.

Could Cracker Barrel become a viable retail outlet? One group of artists thinks so. Bob Everhart, president of the National Traditional Country Music Association, recently announced an opportunity for upper midwest country and bluegrass artists to place their music for sale in area Cracker Barrel Restaurants.

July 12, 2008 will see the kickoff to Cracker Barrel’s Rural Roots Music Fest. From 10am to 7pm area artists will perform on the front porch of the Crackerbarrel store at the Lake Manawa Shopping Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

I don't recall for sure, but I think our local Cracker Barrel already sells bluegrass music.

Ours is about 10 minutes away, if that, but we don't eat there very often because it is too expensive for our budget right now with DH off work for at least two months. :(

Ours sells Bluegrass. I also like to buy worship songs played by a mandolin and other non-electric instruments.

They do indeed sell some bluegrass, but I believe Ken was talking about an alliance to stock even more.

Our closest ones are 45 miles south, 85 miles south, or 30 miles north, all along...yes, you guessed it...Interstate 25.

Southern by birth and love southern food, but there isn't much I have had at CB that I like and there is one about 3 miles from the house. But on the other hand, I do enjoy BG music as well as mountain music or as they use to say Hillbilly music, Carter family, Roy Acoff, Jimmy Rogers( hillybilly but not mountain music, Ms. was to wet) and we enjoy Bill Monroe, Lewis Family and so many more.

    Bolded mine

Have you tasted their turnip greens, pintos, sugar cured ham, sour-dough bread - fer starters?

Thre's not much they have that I don't like, but this could be for either or both of 2 reasons:
    1) The difference in the cooks, and/or
    2) I just like most foods naturally!

I sorta have a reputation of being a human garbage disposal so that may play into the equation.

Anyway I'm sorry you don't find much to interest you there, but if your town is similar to mine, there are many more options!

I do love to hear the OLD country music also; I hate the modern stuff. Nothing but rock&roll (or worse) in blue jeans to me.

I've tryed there meat loaf and didn't care for it, there green are ok but I like a gook amount of fatback cooked in it, I'm more into country ham, red eye gravy than packing house ham or sugar cured ham as I said I'm country.

Our church is full of folks from NY, NJ, and New England and they love it. Most of our group eat outs are at CB and I just by pass it after two or three times. If I eat out I want a steak house or a fish house, at home I have green and northern beans and cornbread all the time. I guess I'm like a guy who lives a few door down the street, he is from Italy and has only been over here about 3 years, wife and I took him out to eat and was going to take him to Olive Garden because we believed he would like their food, when we told him that, he ask if we would take him anywhere but there, so we went to a fish house. He does not care much Olive Garden or other places of that type.

Hmm, Olive Garden. People either seem to like it or loathe it. Almost all their food is overloaded with saturated fat and sodium, two and sometimes three days' worth in one meal. I only go about once a year and that is because someone else wants to go or I get invited out.

As for the Cracker Barrel...I've never been to one. The only one here in Denver in in the Northernmost suburbs, while I live in the southern suburbs. Denver is a big city, it would probably be an hour's drive one way.
