In January 2008, a minor in foster care in Richmond, procured an abortion while receiving support services from Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC).

An investigation of this unfortunate event revealed that some members of CCC staff assisted the minor in preparations leading up to the abortion, and that one member of staff signed the consent form necessary for the minor to have the abortion. The minor was taken to and from the abortion facility by a person associated with CCC.

Should I be shocked by this?

Actually, I'm a bit disappointed that you failed to include so much of the relevant details in your post.

Your link states: (highlighting is mine for emphasis)

"Neither agency nor diocesan funds were used to pay for the procedure. A subsequent investigation also revealed that about two months prior to the abortion the minor had been assisted by CCC staff with implantation of a contraceptive device. Obviously, both the implantation of the contraceptive device and the abortion are contrary to basic teachings of the Catholic Church.

This occurrence has also raised legal and other questions that have already been or are now being addressed. Because of the seriousness of this incident, several actions have been taken by CCC, including:

    1. Ongoing education and training for all Catholic Charities employees to underscore the primacy of Catholic teachings and beliefs that impact their work and professional ethics; and

    2. Disciplinary actions of the employees involved in the placement of the contraceptive device and the abortion. "

A piece of information which is lacking from the press release is whether the particular employees involved in this are even Catholic. Perhaps they are not. Who knows?

What was your intent in posting this anyway? How are we to be edified by this?

I'm disappointed but not surprised. As difficult as an unwanted pregnacy may be and as understanding and supportive and noble as many pro-life might be, there exist among Catholics and "Christians" of other faiths those who do not acknowledge that life begins at conception and who are pro abortion. That many will closet their support but involve themselves in positions of trust where they can quietly promote their agenda is a living example of how dark is evil; done in secrecy, not done in the light; and refusing to come to the light.... as this report by the same publisher illustrates the corruption in the very service agency through which abortion services are obtained:
GO HERE for this article which also exposes PP's position on racially motivated donations for abortions
