KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Police were questioning a man suspected of shooting and critically wounding seven people in a "horrendous" attack at a Unitarian church Sunday morning, according to CNN.

The shooting was reported at 10:18 a.m. Sunday at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, Deputy Police Chief Bill Roehl told CNN. The suspect was taken into custody shortly, Roehl told CNN.

"To our knowledge right now, he is the lone suspect in this case," Roehl said.

The seven gunshot victims were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, just across the Tennessee River from the church, said Capt. Brent Seymour, a Knoxville Fire Department spokesman. About 12 others were treated for minor injuries at the church, he told CNN.

    It has happened again.

    Oh, my goodness!
I know this church - it's right on Kingston Pike (the main road going through to West Knoxville). One of the nicest soccer coaches I ever had growing up is a member there, along with a few old friends. I found them to be very gracious people.

Thanks for letting me know - guess I will be making some phone calls,

I had e-mails from people in Knoxville that I sing with occasionally. One woman is a member of the church and was sitting near some of the victims. She was also acquainted with the man who died. The whole community of shape-note singers will be praying for them.

Here is a link to today's story in The Tennessean.

    Keep us informed Tim

Let us know what is happening as this story develops in your community, our prayers go out to this church and those who have perished and their family's and that hate will find repentance and be forgiven, I think the people of this church would not return the hate.

Here are some quotes from the link about one of the victoms, Greg McKendry:
:praying: I pray for the victoms and their families, for all members of this church. I also thank God for men like Greg.

This is very sad, made even more sad knowing the people killed were not saved if they believed as Unitarians believe.

Also, a spin may be put on this as a hate crime since the shooter said he was mad about the church promoting gay rights (among other things). I think he chose this place partly because his ex-wife was once a member there (or used to attend it).
