RICHMOND — The Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival proved that it could hold its own against some of the top-billed music events in the state during the weekend.

The 29th annual festival at El Rancho Mañana Campground, Riding Stable & Recreational Area drew 5,000-6,000 attendees during the four-day run ending Sunday.

Attendance met organizers' expectations, even though WE Fest in Detroit Lakes and the Bayfront Blues Festival in Duluth were taking place at the same time.

"It hasn't seemed to hurt our attendance at all," said Jed Malischke, concert organizer and executive director of the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association.

High gas prices didn't seem to hurt attendance either.

The campgrounds were filled with RVs and campers from Minnesota and out of state.
