HIGHLAND, Calif. — Authorities say a 16-year-old girl who died after losing control of her car had been texting on her cell phone moments before the accident.
Kayla Preuss, of Highland, was driving on the Interstate 10 Freeway in Redlands when she lost control of her car and crashed. She died of head injuries.
Authorities say Preuss had been driving drunk and was speeding. But another factor may have contributed to the crash.
Phone records show Preuss was texting just before the accident. Her cell phone, which was flipped open, was found resting on the floorboard by her feet.
Preuss' mother Kelly said she hopes the accident will make other people think before texting and driving.

    Bolded and underlined my emphasis...

Does anyone else find the mother's statement strange...

Sure, blame it on texting, and not on the fact that

    SHE WAS DRUNK!!!!

I am not saying she shouldn't have been texting... but

    SHE WAS DRUNK!!!!

The story only emphasizes the dangers of texting, while seemingly to underscore the fact that....

    YEP, YOU GUESSED IT>...

    SHE WAS DRUNK!!!!

OH, did I mention she was speeding as well as

    SHE WAS DRUNK!!!!

Apparently the fact that she was drunk and speeding wasn't as important as the fact that she was texting.

What is wrong with people, the mother blames the texting and not the drunk speeding. I am sure the texting was part of it, it frequently is even when drivers aren't drunk, but good grief, drunk driving and speeding and all she says is texting.

Texting and talking on cell phones is illegal here in Maryland. I am sure both have caused many accidents and a number of deaths ... even of those who were not drunk. Now texting while drunk is really stupid. But who says that drunkards are thinking straight anyway?

DRUNK!!!! at 16, oh well, it`s the same over here, but youngsters may not get behind the wheel until they are 17 in UK. This is sad, however, the loss of a young life from indulging in 1. too much alchohol......2.speeding as a result ............. and on top of it all ........ 3.using a mobile `phone whilst driving. But really sad is the mentallity of a parent who seems to only have seen the problem as texting, and disregarded the rest of the problem. :tear:
