McCain VP

I think either would take the job, but I don't think McCain would offer Romney.

Huckabee would offer more in terms of support in southern, more conservative states. It wouldn't be an issue of stealing them from Obama or Hillary but of keeping them from staying home.

 

I think McCain will have to pick someone more mainstream conservative as a running mate.

This will be the only way he can cement their essential vote this November.

After all, in his speech to CPAC, McCain said he could not win without the conservative vote, which I believe is accurate.

the conservatives will vote for him anyway...

They will vote for him as a vote against Hillary or Obama...

So, he shouldn't have to worry about them...

He still may, but I don't think he has too.

 

He will pick a conservative. Mark it down. He has nothing to gain by picking a moderate. He already draws the moderates. He needs to make sure that the conservatives don't stay home.

I think to nominate Huckabee for VP would not deliver any states McCain wouldn't win otherwise. In fact, it's doubtful if a VP candidate helps the Pres. candidate win any states at all. But assuming it might, then the VP candidate should be from the first or second state closely in question, one with the greatest number of electoral votes at stake. And fortunately or unfortunately, that is likely to be Florida, in which Jeb Bush might help in a small way, but would more likely hurt the ticket nationally.

And that should be the biggest consideration. Select a VP candidate who hurts the ticket the least; not who gives the slightest edge in 1 or 2 states. If it worked that easily, Loyd Bentsen would have 'delivered' Texas for Michael Dukakis in '88; but Texas wasnt' nearly close enough for him to make the difference and it more likely hurt the Demo ticket nationally, with the furor against Bentsen for his support of "Contra aid."

So don't overestimate the impact of a VP candidate. It's much like the office itself-- more likely a political dead end than a step up.

 

I would love to see Duncan Hunter on the ticket or even Steve Forbes. I'd prefer either of those two over Romney or Huckabee.

 

IMO, none of these will be on the ticket.

McCain will pick someone outside of the race. He won't pick Forbes, either.

 

If he would pick Forbes, I would defineatly not vote for him.

 

I heard Hunter interviewed the other day and he said he would definately consider it. He sounded like he'd been approached by someone -whether that someone was on the McCain campaign or in the party I couldn't tell.

At this point, I'd like to see a third party candidate arise - uprise mmmm spring forth . . . .

 

Tim Pawlenty, governor of Minnesota, is my guess for McCain's pick for vice president.

 

Maybe FL governor Christ, or TX governor Perry. Maybe even former governor of CO, Bill Owens. But then again, McCain wants a 100 year war in Iraq, perhaps Dick Cheney!

I didn't vote for him or Obama last time and I wouldn't vote for either this coming time. I can't think of any reason I would vote for a liberal like McCain.

Didn't read the date of the start of this, but I'll still go with the above.
