I tend to not watch them - I'd much rather watch a Walton's episode or a cooking show, honestly. But the other night I couldn't sleep and I watched Joel Osteen. Nice looking guy, very personable, GREAT motivational speaker. Too bad he didn't use Scripture or talk Biblical teachings.

I also tuned in late one night to some guy screaming and yelling about God wants us to be rich. I watched for about 5 minutes before the Spirit in me made me turn it off. It was offensive. I looked it up and it was Creflo Dollar. Bleck!

    Charles Stanley
    David Jeremiah

IMHO, these two tend to stick closer to the Bible (not saying that these are the ONLY ones that do, mind you) than some of the others do.

I have to admit that I haven't watched them - but they're good from what I hear.

I do like Charles Stanley's son Andy a lot. DH and I will sometimes lay in bed and listen to an iPod with his sermons. Wonder how many couples snuggle in bed to listen to sermons?? ROTFL!

I totally agree with what Ann said. Joel Osteen is a great motivational speaker but he uses little scripture. I saw him on Larry King, a couple of years ago, he would not say that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation. He only claimed that if there were others he was not aware of them.

I do like Charles Stanley. I also like Kerry Shook (he maybe just in this area) He is a motivator but uses lots of scripture and says that Jesus Christ is most definetly the only way for salvation.

I do enjoy Charles Stanley, and have listened to him for many years. I still remember the Sunday back in 1998 when I was baptized by immersion, after having left the Catholic Church. That night (on TV) I listened to Charles Stanley preach a sermon on believer's baptism; that was especially meaningful to me.

I don't watch tele-evangelists, get tired of the constant appeals for $$$$.

I do listen to a ton of ministers through iTunes and their podcasts. I have my favorites and some that I listen to because they have a fascinating way of engaging Scripture (though we disagree over much.) I don't have to agree with everything a person believes to hold that they do have some significant insight spirituality and theologically.

Some people I listen to on a weekly basis (please no flames):
    Andy Stanley
    Charles Stanley
    Mark Batterson
    Perry Noble
    Rick Warren
    Mark Dever
    Craig Groestchel
    Rob Bell
    Gregory Boyd
    John MacArthur
    Ravi Zacharias

It is pretty easy to do when you set up your iTunes appropriately. I have some other guys I'll check in with from time to time but these are my mainstays. :)

Here lately, I have enjoyed listening to a preacher that goes outside the box and to me he is speaking to the younger generation more so than the older generation, at least it seems to be more on there level. His name is Mark Driscoll from Mars Hill Church in Seattel Washington
    Mars Hill Church

and then I listen to a guy that I have alot of respect for and that is the President of Mid America Seminary in Memphis, Mike Spradlin. You can listen to both of these online. Mike has preached revivals at our church a few times and is a very stand up guy that preaches Gods word very solid and great teaching method.

DH is reading one of Mark Driscoll's books right now and the way he terms some things bring out lots of laughs from DH. His favorite so far is a description of the college ministry attendees he had in one book. HYSTERICAL and beyond true.

Creflo did a siminar here some years ago and was asked what happens if his members don't financially increase. He said they get frustrated and leave which is good since it freed up the seat for a better tither... I haven't been able to stomach him much since...

I would say that Copeland, Crouch, and Osteen are heretics since they are Word of Faith people.

Never heard of Creflo Dollar but most of the TV preachers? are after your dollar.

Schuler"s son left "his fathers church" apparently in a dispute over his father's failure to preach the true Gospel.

Robertson is a name it and claim it tongue speaker.

I assume you mean Jim [double k] Baker.

Swaggert is a speaker who is able to sense the mood of the crowd and use it, much like B. Hussein O'bama.

I saw a show one time that showed how his father labored to build that congregation. However, once the Lord places another leader in charge you have to get out of the way. I don't think his father could do that.

One man plants, another water but it is God who gives the increase...

I can't say much for preachers on te telly. I do enjoy the pastor of the People's Church in Toronto. Excellent message and presentable manners.

The radio days is what I liked; The Old Fashioned Revival Hour, Charles E. Fuller; The Back to the Bible, good Bible teachers; Machen had a worship hour...I wish I could recall all their names, but my memory just went blank......have to get back later....

    Cheers,

    Jim

The only preachers on tv that I will watch are:

    Charles Stanley
    David Jeremiah
    James Merritt
Mick Bowen (pastor of Faith Baptist Church Knightdale, NC)
    Adrian Rogers
    Jerry/Jonathan Falwell

Beyond those I can't think of one preacher on tv that I watch. Most preachers on tv are crooks trying to get money out of people.

Big name tv preachers I advise everyone to avoid are:

    Benny Hinn
    Kenneth Copeland
    TD Jakes
    Joel Osteen
    John Hagee
    Creflo Dollar
    Mike Murdock
    Morris Cerullo
    David Cerullo
    Paula White
    Robert Schuler

Sadly there are many, many others but those are the only ones that I can think of off the top of my head. To be on the safe side folks should avoid TBN unless Stanley, Jeremiah, or one of the good ones happens to be on.

Totally forgot Joyce Meyer because I don't see her as a pastor. She's another one to avoid.

I agree with your post. I saw a pastor I haven't seen in years a few days ago, Garner Ted Armstrong. Not sure if it was a rerun or not, but he fits into the same above catagory.

I hope it was a rerun. Garner Ted died in 2003!

Another I can't stand is Marilyn Hickey, based here in the Denver area, and her daughter. Want to buy a prayer cloth anyone?
