Formerly known as Northland Baptist Bible College.

    No joke - www.ni.edu.

    "International" - laughable
    "University" - pretentious

    This alum is not happy.

I am sure it's money-driven; they think they can bring in more students without "Baptist"?

Of course, they waited until AFTER the recent campaign for funds for a scholarship in Dr. O's name.

Northland has alumni who are serving on foreign fields and I think they have been offering extension courses on foreign fields for quite some time. If that doesn't qualify them for the title "International", I don't know what would.

I am a graduate of a different Bible College. The poor people who run the place--I pray for them and often feel sorry for them. There is a group of alumni who live in constant fear and hand-wringing that the school is about to go liberal. Some of these people advised me not to go there when I was in my teens because of their suspicions about the school. Now, 27 years later, these same alumni are still worried about the school in spite of the fact that the school holds the same position now that it held 30 years ago and 40 years prior to that.

It looks like Northland has the same type of alumni problem as my school. Thankfully, I am sure they are not all like that.

Just came from the site, and I see there is a 2010 launch of "Northland Online". It seems this name encompasses Northland Online, Baptist Bible College (still there), Graduate School, and Center for Global Opportunities. Since they are offering distance Ed "international" is hardly laughable, and whether you like it or not...it is a university.

As someone who is seeking a secular job, but would desire a Christian education, I would rather have "Baptist" and even "Bible" out of the name. I'm not applying to a job to prosyletize my employer, but to provide for my family. Of course the Great Commission is applicable, though. "Baptist" has come to mean quite a bit these days, and unfortunately the Phelp's lunatics come to mind foremost when that word is used.
