Its time for the real NHL season to start. Here are the first round matchups and my predictions.

    EASTERN CONFERENCE

Boston vs. Montreal- Boston in 4 (just cus I can't stand Montreal)
Washington vs. New York Rangers- Rangers in 6
New Jersey vs. Carolina- New Jersey in 5 unless Cam Ward plays great then I go with the Hurricanes.
Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia- Flyers in 6

    WESTERN CONFERENCE

San Jose vs. Anaheim- Ahaheim in 6 (another classic Sharks choke job)
Detroit vs. Columbus- Detroit in 6 (I hate to say it but this is a bad matchup for my beloved Wings.)
Vancouver vs. St. Louis- Vancouver in 4
Chicago vs. Calgary- Chicago in 7

Can't believe the Jackets choked away and slipped to a 7 seed. There's a huge difference between playing Detroit and playing Vancouver.

I will be rooting for the Jackets over the Wings, since the Wings have plently of hardware. But if the Wings win as expected, then Go Wings!

Andy, I don't want to hear anything about the Jackets choking away a seed as my Preds choked away a berth. I know some injuries hurt down the stretch, but get a point at Minnesota and you're in...and you CAN'T EVEN DO THAT? They went from in and out all season long. Hard to believe this team is a couple of years away from back to back 100+ seasons.

I'll check back in with my predictions later.

Nah...I'll do it now. First round only? Okay

SJ over ANA in 6 (They may lose this one..won't know what to do not playing NASH in the playoffs)
    Det over Cols in 6
    Van over STL in 5
Chc over Cal in 7 (going to be a great series)

    Bos over Mont in 5
    Was over NYR in 6
    Car over NJ in 7
    Pitt over PHI in 6

I want the Penguins to win the Stanley Cup. That's who I'll root for.

It's bad enough to be embarrassed in a 4-game sweep, but at least get the team right - dude, it's the Blue Jackets. Of course, the St. Louis Blues also got swept by Vancouver, so it was a bad year for that color, I guess. :)

My bad. I knew what team it was. Sorry I am not used to to Columbus having a NHL team. What on earth is a Blue Jacket anyhow? I know what a yellow jacket is, but why on earth did they pick blue jackets for a name?

I think we can say that teams with the name blue are feeling rather blue right now.

Blue Jacket was a famous Indian who lived in Ohio. That's where the name came from. But yet, their mascot is a blue bug. Go figure.

The Red Wings are cool too. If Pittsburgh doesn't win, I'll cheer for Detroit.

I thought it was for the Blue Jackets of the Civil War?
I heard a story that the bug (thank God they took the bug off the sweater) on the day of the Cols debut was bright yellow and blue, and the NHL officials were oblivious to what parading a maze and blue mascot in Cols would do to the locals.

You had me at "the NHL officials were oblivious".

I don't get Versus on Dish Network, so I don't get to watch playoff hockey anymore. :tear:

Regardless, I'll plunge headlong knowing nothing about the teams and predict the Caps and Bruins win in the East and the Blackhawks and Dead Things win in the West.

I wish the NHL would renegotiate and get on a better network. VS does a decent job, but still, the NHL should be smarter than this. ESPN did a good job, but they won't go after the NHL and NBA at the same time.

I"m just a bitter Predators fan...nevermind my rantings.

And that right there sums up the many problems with the league. How this guy can keep his job for so long is beyond me.:BangHead:

I hope so. The Ducks will be a tough opponent but I really worry about possibly playing Chicago in the Western conf. finales.

This sure has been one exciting playoffs so far! Lots of games sevens and sixes.

The conference finals are upon us.

    EASTERN CONFERENCE
    Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Caroline Hurricanes:

Frankly, I was hoping that the Penguins would get eliminated by Washington but oh well. Carolina will have to do it. I like the Canes. They are one of my favorite eastern conference teams. I like Carolina in this one just because of sheer will power. Hurricanes in 6

    WESTERN CONFERENCE
Detroit Red Wings vs. Chicago Blackhawks:

I wish this was the Cup finales honestly. Two original six teams. Two division rivals with no love lost between them. This is going to be intense. The Blackhawks are a young talented team. They have good speed and some definite snipers. But the Wings are the Wings. Period. Depth and experience will win out in the end. Red Wings in 7.

    Stanley Cup Finals time!!!

And we have a rematch. It will be interesting to see if Hossa's decision to take less money to play for Detroit in order to win the cup, will be either a great move or something he will regret for years to come.

Of course I am a homer and will pick Detroit in 5 over Pittsburgh if Lidstrom and Datsuyk are back. If not it will be Detroit in 7. Wings have just so much depth.
