Crazy stuff as far as “what the bible says about marriage”… Deuteronomy 22 is an especially nice touch.

1 kings 15:9-10… Abijam apparently marries his own mother.

1 Corinthians 7… Paul discourages marrying in several ways

Deuteronomy 22:28-29… If you rape a virgin, it’s ok, but you have to pay her dad 50 shekels of silver and marry her…

2 Samuel 13:1-22… David’s son wouldn’t marry his half sister after he raped her though, so he gets killed.

1 Timothy 5:11-12… apparently young widows who remarry are going to hell?

Lamech, Abijah, Esau, Jacob, Samuel’s father, Saul, David, Solomon, Ashur, Rehoboam, Jehoram, Jehoiada, all had multiple wives and sometimes concubines with no condemnation about it.

Exodus 21:20... instructions for taking a second wife

Abram is married to his half sister.

Genesis 17:15-16… Abraham marries Sarai… his sister.

Exodus 6:20… Moses’s father married his father’s sister, making Moses a product of aunt/nephew incest.

Psalms 106:29-30… somebody throws a spear through a newly married interracial couple and kills them both at the same time. This makes God happy enough that he stops the plague.

Jeremiah 3:1… a remarried divorced woman is "polluted".

Jeremiah 3:20… if a wife leaves her husband it is treacherous… tis ok for men to do that though, until Jesus came around.

Judges 21:7-25… The Benjamites needed wives, because the Israelites killed so many of them, so the Israelites attack yet another tribe, killing everything except the 400 young virgins for them, which wasn’t enough, so they went somewhere else, hid in the bushes, and told the Benjamites to just snatch whichever one they like. When that tribe didn't like that too much, the Israelites were like "hey guys, help us out here".

Mark 10:29-30… Jesus tells potential followers to abandon their wives and children to follow him and they’ll get 100 times that many in heaven.

Luke 14:26… Jesus says you can’t be his disciple unless you hate your wife and kids and the rest of your family.

    LAST BUT NOT LEAST...
Deuteronomy 22:13-21… if you take a wife, "go into her", but later decide you hate her, you can claim she wasn’t a virgin when you got married. If her parents then cannot "produce the tokens of virginity" (bloody sheets... figure it out), which would be impossible at this point... she is to be stoned to death at her dad’s doorstep.

How much longer are you going to stay around here and attempt to spread your hate for God's Word?

I didn't say I hated it, alot of it is pretty interesting. The bible says it... do you have a problem with that? I'm not making this stuff up.

"alot of it is pretty interesting"...says much about what you think about the Bible.

When you get done with your academic reading of the Bible, try a Holy Spirit lead reading and you will come away with an eternal understanding rather this the one you have now.

I think the whole thing is "interesting", not just "alot" of it.

All of your verses are taken out of context.

Marrying your half sister wasn't forbidden in OT times. Even going back to Adam and Eve, brother and sister marriages weren't forbidden. How else could they be fruitful and mulitply?

Requiring a man who raped to marry the victim was actually for the benefit of the woman, who would have been unable to marry and would have been left alone with no one to care for her or her children. It sounds barbaric for our times, but the alternative in those days was for a woman to be destitute. There were no women's safety shelters then, or welfare and food stamps.

    Leviticus 18:6
None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness.

    Leviticus 20:11
And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
(yet God sent David's son to sleep with all of David's wives in the broad daylight for all of Israel to see)

    Leviticus 20:14
And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you. --

I didn't say that people stopped marrying relatives after the Law, but it was a sin after God gave the Law. It was not a sin until then because God had not given a command forbidding it.

How do you suppose the first family was to populate the earth without marrying relatives?

Pretty poor interpetation of the new Testament verses. neither say anything close to what you are implying and only an extremely remedial reading of the could lead to what you say. But then i doubt you beleive they mean that either.

As for the OT stuff. Someone had to marry their sister or mother somewhere. Regardless of the Bible.

I suppose it would be much easier to just beleive that not only one, but two life formed from nothing and just so happened to be the correct sex to reproduce. Now that takes more faith than I have.

I have no idea, we're supposed to guess I guess. It says Cain knew his wife, and that's about it.

I'll let the New International Version interpret it then since their version is sooooo much nicer:

    Luke 14:26
If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.

    Mark 10:29-30
I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life.

I don't think I'm that far off, especially the one in Luke, that's exactly what it says.

hehe...this thread reminds me of a pretty smart 8 year old kid I knew who enjoyed reading portions of Leviticus (the really uncomfortable parts) during Bible study...

its like running up and kicking the adults in the shins and running away...lol I'm not being mean just think its entertaining in some dark, twisted way...:)

Your way off. That's no different than saying we can never stop praying because the bible says pray without ceasing or that we must always be awake because the bible says to not be found sleeping.

Where are you coming from anyway? Convince me that you beleive what you write on the boards.
