In March, Steven Rattner, the leader of the Obama Administration's auto task force, was the man who sat face to face with General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner at a Treasury Department meeting, and fired him.

Now it's Rattner's turn on the hot seat.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday night that Rattner was involved with payments at the center of an investigation into an alleged kickback scheme at New York state's pension fund. Sourcing their information to a "person familiar with the matter," Journal reporters Craig Karmin and Peter Lattman reported that Rattner, who was then an executive at Quadrangle Group, an investment firm he co-founded, met with a "politically connected" consultant to discuss a finder's fee. Quadrangle later paid a $1.1 million fee, and received a $100 million investment from the New York State Common Retirement Fund.

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and the Securities and Exchange Commission have been investigating whether payments to middle men by private equity firms including Quadrangle constituted improper kickbacks in exchange for investments from the pension fudn, which is worth $122 billion.

Sad how these guys rip off the public with all these schemes. I hope he shares a cell with Bernie Madoff.

Folks, don't forget that Obama was reared on Chicago politics so don't get excited when he appoints another crook. How many does that make [not including the head honcho R. Emanuel].?

It amazes me that there have been so many now that people just seem to be numb.

If it were anyone else, there would be never ending reports, in depth investigations, grand juries and special prosecutors.

    peace to you:praying:

Funny... I'm just glad Obama didn't have Geithner come by with his tax act disc and do his taxes. You guys would have a field day if Obama taxes had a mistake.

Obama seems to have a high tolerance for assorted crooks.

He keeps nominating them for positions of responsibility.

Is that his Chicago political background showing itself?

Or is it a deep character flaw?

Probably just the vetting by his staff. With all the things you see Obama doing, I am sure he's not personally checking backgrounds of potential appointee's.

It is funny...that anyone would believe that the smartest guy in the world, the only man on the planet that knows the tax code well enough to handle "tarp" money, makes "honest' mistakes and/or "forgets" to pay his own taxes.

"I know", says Obama, "let's put the tax cheat in charge of the IRS".

Change you can believe in, right?

Why do, or better yet "how can", you continue to support Obama?

    peace to you:praying:

Where do I begin, my wifes 401K is all but restored, the markets are active, banks are redoing home loans and giving people outstanding rates under 5%, I am seeing new cars leaving the lot, the world views us in a more friendlier light and even Cuba, the remains of the cold war wants to at least speak with us. And, I just got a tax cut...

Oh, and one of the homeless shelters where we visit is able to feed way more people and it appears they qualify to add more beds which are needed when the temp dips below zero. I have a lot of unemployed members who just got a slight bump and extension of their benefits to help them weather this storm. All of this in 100 days... I haven't seen an administration accomplish so much in so short of time.

As for Geithner, he was advertised as the guy who could fix the economy and not the only expert on the tax code. We knew that when we took him though. If he was an expert on tax code he wouldn't have had to use turbo tax or whatever and he would have gotten his own return right.

However, because he couldn't get his own return right means he knows how complicated the tax code has become and will will spearhead this administration vow to simplify that nightmare...

    That's a riot.

I suppose, then, that Obama should hire a rapist so that the sex crimes laws can be updated.

    Wow.

Wow! The recession is over, our enemies now love us, global warming is over and you got an extra 20 bucks a month to spend.

Amazing, since we are still living under the effects of Bush's tax policies. Obama's won't be felt until next year.
You are wrong. When the facts came out about his tax avoidance, I heard a prominant member of congress, and many reporters echo, the claim he and only he was smart enough to run the tarp money program. Probably the only person in the whole world who was smart enough to do it right.
No, it means he is a tax cheat. He knew the law. People told him what he had to pay. He willfully chose to cheat on his taxes. Most other Americans would go to jail. He gets chosen to run the IRS.

That is change you can believe in?

    I don't think so.

    peace to you:praying:

Funny... The recession is far from over. I have it on my calendar until next year.

Even funnier, it was the Bush tax policies that got us into this mess. It is the stimulus spending that is boosting the economy.

It was inappropriate home lending policies of the left that got us into this mess. Peoples homes are not foreclosing because of taxes.

Millions of people are not being laid off because of home loans.

Tax incentives did encourage jobs being moved overseas. People without a job generally don't pay their mortgage.

There are a number of things that encouraged jobs to go overseas. To include excessive labor costs etc.

Millions of people are being laid off because the banks are not lending money which has provided for the building of homes and supplies capital to keep businesses going. The reason for this is so many home loans went belly up it hurt the banks and they were not able to loan.

I can agree, but a tax break sure helps when making this decision.

It is kind of naive to blame all the layoffs on banks not lending. If the companies were productive they would not need banks to lend them money. We could just as easily say many of the companies didn't store up in the times of plenty so they could make it through the time of lean.
