Where to give out gospel literature?

You can give out tracts:
(1) door to door
(2) sticking them in the mailboxes here in Japan (illegal in the States) and in doors in America
(3) on the street
(4) to chance acquaintances
(5) to many people who come to your own door: salesmen, JWs, etc. Keep a little rack at the door with various tracts.
(6) to people at the counters of stores, restaurants, etc. They've just sold you something or are trying to. Since they want your business they will almost always be polite.
(7) in letters; a friend has a program of sending a Gospel letter with a tract in it to every single home in his hometown and nearby towns.
(8) to people on trains or buses. Lots of times they want something to read.
(9) on street corners while waiting for the light to change
(10) to hitchhikers, but be careful who you pick up

Don't litter, but you can leave them:
(1) in restrooms, where again people often want something to read
(2) in phone booths, if there are any left in America :thumbs:
(3) in hotel or motel rooms; I like to stick them in the Gideon Bible
(4) with the tip in a restaurant, only make sure you give a decent tip or you are being a reproach to the cause of Christ

Tips:
(1) Make sure the Gospel is complete in the tract you use, according to 1 Cor. 15. Don't leave out the atonement for sin, or the resurrection, like some tracts do. "Jesus loves you, call on Him and pray this prayer" just isn't enough. A good "hook" at the beginning and invitation at the end are also important.
(2) The personal touch is good. Write and pass out your own tract, or use one written by a relative or a friend. You can say, "My friend wrote this, so I like to pass it out."
(3) Never give up. Some of the best folk in our church got saved or started coming through a tract. Keep sowing the seed. "Be ye not weary in well doing, for in due season ye shall reap if ye faint not."

Pet peeve alert.. .

I HATE seeing tracts around urinals.. NEVER put one on the top of an urinal.. it falls in.. and what message are we sending when people urinate on the tract?
Plus have some feelings for the poor soul that has to go fishing for the tract!...

It is a bad witness.

Where to place tracts? (or Christian Literature or good books)

1.) In library books as book marks.

2.) What holiday is it? What do you for children or families at that holiday? Egg hunt? In eggs. Halloween? In treat bags. Birthday parties? Treat bags.

3.) In waiting rooms at doctors offices, hospitals, tax office waiting rooms, etc.

4.) Pass out flyers to your activity at your nearby day care and attach tracts that are family friendly.

5.) Book bags from school if you can get permission to pass them out.

6.) On cars at Wal Mart or at the mall.

 

An alternative to a tract.. .is a $ bill..

If you are staying in a hotel, or somewhere with a Gideon Bible in the drawer, write a personal note to the next one staying in the room.. place the note with the dollar bill in the pages next to John 3:16.
Leave the dollar bill sticking out barely to get their attention.

When we used to stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Cleveland for my son's brain surgery, we did this all the time.. but with $5 or $10 bills. We knew the next family that stayed there after us would need the extra cash as well.

 

Actually, this is a great idea.

You know, sometimes we toss around tracts and forget that there are people behind the tracts. Add personal touches to passing out tracts.

Hey, Ingo. I think it's great that you're handing out tracts and I really appreciate your zeal.

I don't know if you're aware of this or not, but sending tracts in with your bill payments may not be the wisest way to go about that.

I used to be manager of the department at First Union that processed payments for a variety of companies, including Comcast, Sears, and Mobil Oil. We processed several million per month and the envelopes were processed by machines, not people and these machines were calibrated to literally .1000s of an inch in order to be able to accurately open the envelope and seperate the bill and the check.

Because they're only meant to take the bill and the check, whenever people would send tracts, these would cause the machines to jam and, because the machine operator is has a quota to meet, stopping the machine constantly to clear out paper jams can keep him from meeting that quota and get him into trouble.

Just something to think about.

But I think you're definitely on the right track.

 

I have always thought the same thing. People think it's a great place to leave a tract, when it's actually one of the worst. (So is leaving one for your waitress at the restaurant instead of a tip.)

 

While I have left a few on a urinal. I mostly stick them in the stalls. I have seen many poeple come out of the bathrooms reading the tracts that I have left in there. God bless.

 

Once in a *restricted* country I put them inside clothing at a clothing store. I imagine someone found something "extra" when they took their pants home.

 

I have no idea what "Biblical social justice" is or why it's "unjust" to have a machine do open envelopes.

You do realize that having machines do it lowers the cost, which brings in more business, which allows the company to hire more people, right?

Yeah, nothing warms people up to the message of the Gospel than a mutilated, unreadable tract sent in by somebody who's so inconsiderate that they don't care if they keep the operator from meeting his quota.

There is a wise way to evangelize and an unwise way. If you're sending tracts, knowing that they're going to get somebody into trouble and not caring, because another person sent you an unsolicited piece of mail then that's a very unwise way to do it and you need to seriously consider your motivation.

 

I stick them inside books. I remember going through all of the Davinci Code books at Borders and putting them inside.

A friend and I slipped into my mother's church and put them in the hymnals.

 

All great ideas, but don't send them in with your bill payments. Your bills are opened by a machine and tracts make the machine jam and get the machine operator in trouble.

Any place there's people is a good place to witness, preach, or pass out tracts. Every town has a "party district" where people go on Friday and Saturday nights.

College campuses are excellent. So are sports events and NASCAR races.

Our evangelism team goes to race weekend in Dover every year and we always have a very good response.
