Very good advice. My husband has been in music for years - and even though he never got "big", he always knew that he did it for the Lord. In that, he's had a lot of ministry that's come out of his music.

And you never know what will happen. You can get big or you all can become pastors like a group that was formed in our youth group a number of years ago. All 4 guys are pastors and one is a missionary in Malaysia. The other 3 are either youth pastors or associate pastors. What a blessing that is! Of course, they all still do music individually.

I listened to the band and forgive me for saying this but sometimes I wondering how come that our young people, the future of our churches, imitate the world in music? The words are often fine, but the medium it is delivered, the sound of the music is trying to outdo the world. What ever happened to inspired music, music which lifts the hearts and soul up to the throne of God - instead of causing the tapping of our feet and the giratinon of our torso... just wondering. :type:

It inspired me... maybe it's just personal preference, but I wouldn't call it "worldly" since the very definition of that is sinful. Music is amoral. Maybe it's an age gap thing?

Excellent post, Brother Barnabas. Give me Fannie Crosby, or Isaac watts, any day. I just left a church over the music, and have found a home, I think, in the traditional piano & four part hymnal singing at the Open Door Baptist Church in Missoula.

I don't blame people for being on fire for the Lord. And as much as I love Tiny Tim, and God bless him and his family, this music didn't do it, for me.

Huge difference between "that music's not my type," and "that music's sinful."

I can support folks on the former statement. Not the latter.

Brother Barnabas can speak for himself, but I didn't see him call the music sinful.

And I don't think it's an age thing, either. I know plenty of young people who share my conviction about Christian music.

Another quick point, I don't agree with using music to attract people to church.

When you refer to something as "worldly", whether it was meant or not...it is referred to as sinful, since that is the very definition of the term.

Interesting statement, especially since you just said that just left a church over music and found a new church home because of music. (????)

No offense, but I don't think that you (or I for that matter) are the band's target audience.

Personally, I did know any particular genre of music was inspired. If so, is it classical? Or Gregorian chants? Or only the Psalms? Or just the old standard hymns like Amazing Grace? Or Southern Gospel (please I hope not)? Or is it just the music we like that we deem inspired?

Hmm... could have seen this comin..

OH well.. some like banjos some like electric guitars...

I didn't expect everyone to like it.. I just wanted to share something with my friends in Christ.

Music is to be enjoyed.. not endured..

I have to endure listening to southern Gospel.. with the twanginess and bluegrass sound.. I can't stand that genre.. and I turn it off everytime it comes on the radio..

As I am sure some of you don't enjoy this style.. and that's ok..

Praise God with what you have.

    good day.

I meant attracting the unsaved to church thru music.

Trying to understand your thoughts here.

So it's not OK to attract the unsaved to church thru music.

But it is OK to attract the saved to church thru music.
