Does anyone know about this bill? This item was dated April 20th. Has the bill passed?

One person I know had this assessment:
"Once it becomes law (and it will even if it isn't this time) pastors and other evangelical leaders could be charged and fined or imprisoned if they preach against homosexuality and something happens to a homosexual which could possibly be tied to what the pastor taught."

I have heard of this, but don't know if anything has been passed. About 10 years ago, there was talk about creating hate crimes where they tack on an additional punishment for "hate related crimes".

    Here are my questions:
    1. In order to murder someone, wouldn't you have to hate them to do it? Wouldn't that make everyone who committed murder guilty of a hate crime?

    2. How would you punish someone charged with a hate crime that is being given the maximum punishment? Would you execute them, bring them back to life, & then execute them again?

The other problem is it judges a persons feelings before they commit the crime. Therefore, I could be tried for murder, but not actually have committed it, but still be guilty because I may not like green people.

Then like you mentioned, this law seeps into religion. The Bible says that homosexuality is wrong. If a pastor were to get in front of his congregation & read God's word, then he's looked at as being "hateful" because of his moral, Christian stance.

While I don't like it, doesn't a racist have the right to believe like he does? Its morally wrong to be racist, but its not illegal, nor should it ever be. Who gets to dictate what's racist & what's not? A racist is someone who believes that their ancestory or ethnicity is superior to others. Last time I checked, homosexuality has no ethnicity or ancestory. Therefore, I don't consider it a race or even a minority.

I think these "hate crimes" are bad news for everyone. The government is using the hate crime stuff to police everyone's thoughts.

Now that the baby killers are in charge with their evil agenda and pro-g_y, anti-Christian, anti-free speech, anti-Constitution rights, it will pass. The few churches that do continue to preach and teach about sin will be silenced under threat of losing their tax exemption status and hate speech. All will be well in the world of the AC.

That's one thing I wish that could be done.

In 2003, our church was discussing the removal of Chief Justice Roy Moore & the Ten Commandments. The pastor was very careful about what he said. You could tell that he felt as strongly as his congregation did, but I noticed he was holding back. I felt that the reason was because he didn't want his church to be considered a PAC (Political Action Committee).

I believe that churches should be permitted to get involved with things going on (whether its political or not) without having to worry about losing their tax-exempt status. It makes me wonder if the federal government makes sure to dangle that over the head of churches to ensure that they don't get involved or to silence them.

The bill is to be voted on in the House today. It passed there two years ago but was apparently stopped in the Senate.

I am not sure that a crime would necessarily have to be tied to a pastor's preaching, or for that matter anyone else. I believe that the mere fact that one states that homosexuality is a sin and a perversion would constitute a crime.

Same thing if a pastor refused to marry two homosexuals. And someone on this forum stated this could never happen.
