I seem to much prefer radio teachers and minstries over TV ones for some reason. I'm not sure why, but it seems like there is much less of the "wild excess" that TV seems to get into so much. (TBN, etc.)

And I really like what I heard J. Vernon McGee say one time. This was years ago, and he said some friends had asked him if he ever felt like doing TV. He said he thought about it for a while, and then said...

You know, I think I'll stay on radio. Not much of a chance of me ever starting to think I'm some kind of a "big shot" on radio. Just a voice teaching Gods word. I can walk around anywhere I want and I'm still a "nobody". Thats how I want it. I'm the "nobody", and Christ is the one lifted up"

    I like that.

Anyway...here are the radio teaching broadcasts that bless me the most...

    The Living way (Jack Hayford)
    Charles Stanley
The Word for Today (Chuck Smith)
    J. Vernon McGee
The Bible Answer Man call in program
People to People call in program

    Your favorites?...

Aside from Hayford and Bob George (People to People) I think that's a pretty good list. I would add RC Sproul to those you mentioned and probably Tony Evens.

Be careful with George... I have actually heard him speak against preaching and teaching out of the OT.

Hayford, Stanley, Smith and Hank are Arminian to the core. McGee is now in the Lord's presence and is no longer an Arminian -- Praise God!

I know the question is about "radio" ministries, but these days, you're just as likely to find great preaching on the internet or via podcast so some of mine are radio and/or internet preachers:

    (In no particular order)

    Paul Washer
    John McArthur
    Phil Johnson
    Russell Moore
    Al Mohler
    Todd Friel
    John Piper

I don't really know enough about Voddie Baucham (sp?) enough to endorse him, but the couple of times I've heard him, he's been right on the money.

Also, I like Chris Rosebrough, who isn't so much a preacher as he is a Bible teacher who takes on controversial topics and false teachers. He's dead wrong about the rapture and I disagree with him strongly about baptism (both non-essentials that the Bible says we can disagree over), but he's solid on everything else.

Careful with him. He endorses "The Shack".

And don't forget their anti-nomianism and their endorsement of The Shack.

Todd Friel of Wretched Radio/T.V. is definitely my favorite. I love the way he puts things in perspective, and exposes false teaching.

John Macarthur, John Piper, Al Mohler, and Aleister Begg are some others.

The Shack is a novel, for cryin' out loud, not some theological treatise or doctrinal study. :tonofbricks:

Although I have neither read it, nor even heard of it before today, I would categorize it, since it is a novel, in the same vein with such books as The City of God (Augustine); The Inferno (Dante); The Pilgrim's Progress (John Bunyan); The Screwtape Letters and The Chronicles of Narnia (C. S. Lewis); In His Steps (Charles Sheldon); etc., none of which are directly "doctrinal expositions" (despite attempts to paint especially The City of God as such), and are designed to be 'inspirational reading' as opposed to specifically theological fare.

By no means is this an attempt to suggest that The Shack may even come within light-years of any or all of of the above, either, but is merely recognizing the genre of the volume, for as I said, I had not even heard of it until this morning and did a little looking a bit of it up on-line. :type:

(In fact, I might even suggest that many actual attempts at 'doctrine' really might be better classified as 'fiction' rather than theology,:BangHead: , but since I am in a good mood this A.M., I will not go there, for now.) ;)

I might conceivably endorse several books of a similar genre, as these above, but would not recommend any of them as true 'doctrinal' works.

Once a book, fiction or non-fiction, makes claims about the nature of God, it is no longer "just a novel", but a doctrinal statement.

    And you would be wrong.

Wretched Radio!!!! Havensdad, you may be alright after all. :D

I enjoy almost the entire selection on Sirius channel 161.. except the 700 club and Dave Ramsey. They play J Vernon McGee,Chuck Stanley, Alistair Begg, Adrian Rogers, etc etc etc... Great line up except for 4 of the 24 hrs in a day.
I don't agree with everything everyone says all the time, but thats true of 'real life' too... thankfully I don't have to give everyone a tag.

Are you seriously here suggesting that any such fare as The Chronicles of Narnia and The Screwtape Letters or the works of J.R.R.Tolkein make any sort of "doctrinal statement" that would come within a thousand miles of such as, say, The Existence and Attributes of God, by Stephen Charnock, Biblical Demonology by Dr. Merrill F. Unger, or Bible Doctrine by Dr. Mark G. Cambron, or Angels by Dr. Billy Graham? Get real.

BTW, I did not say 'doctrinal statement' for I guess anything, including one's personal acts, can be construed in some way to be somewhat in this manner, but "doctrinal study" which I would consider a much deeper and more intense and Biblical category, to say the very least.

I thoroughly have enjoyed such varied 'movies' with Christian themes as "Ben-Hur", "the Ten Commandments", "The Gospel Blimp", "The Passion of the Christ" and "Fireproof" to name five off the top of my head, but I am not about to use any of them as any 'source-book' for teaching Christian Doctrine.

FTR, neither Dr. Steve Brown nor Key Life advocate what you noted as "anti-nomianism" except in the eyes of individuals who believe that the Mosaic Law is somehow 'binding' on a Christian, despite their own claims to the contrary.

Not one precept of the Mosaic Law was ever given for me, as a Gentile, nor am I now, nor have I (or anyone else who is a Christian, except by their own self-imposed efforts) ever been 'under' this law as a Christian, in any manner. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death, and I'm just not going to put myself in subjection to any bankrupt beggar, when I'm a King's kid, with all the riches of His glory for me! You might wanna' read Galatians and Romans a bit closer, in this.
I have never claimed I could not be wrong, on any subject, which is a great deal different that "would" as you put it.

Verses please, if and when I do happen to be wrong, and not just someone's opinion or personal preferences.

EDSutton, are you confusing Dickens' Tale Of Two Cities with Augustine's great masterpiece? The former is certainly a novel. The latter is obviously not. Augustine's City Of God is as theological as can be. It is non-fiction. However, your view is 'novel'.
