    President Obama is just average.

At least by the standard of approval ratings.

Though Obama's job approval score is strong and has been since he took office, historical polling data shows Obama's popularity during his first 100 days is right in the middle of the scores other new presidents received from the public over the past 60 years.

Obama's 63 percent average, according to a study released by Gallup last month, is the highest for a new president since Jimmy Carter (he clocked in at 69 percent during his first 100 days).

But John F. Kennedy bested Obama by more than 10 points, with 74 percent. Dwight Eisenhower enjoyed a 71 percent rating early on.

Even Richard Nixon averaged a 62 percent approval rating, just 1 point shy of Obama's.

Overall, Obama's average for the first three months matched the historical average of 63 percent for presidents since Eisenhower.

The real test will be in about in about 15 months, as we go into the midterm elections.

We'll see what it looks like then.

It is funny to see that Obama beats Tricky Dick by 1% point. The left must be having a tough time with that.

    peace to you:praying:

This is the important factor. Additionally, you also have to consider the fact that a certain percentage of the population would not like the President, no matter what he does.

And a certain amount will praise him, no matter what he does.

As we prepare for nation building, Iraq-style, in three nations, unemployment skyrocketing, with a president more worried about image than anything else, I ask what has improved ?

Whether he is a "tremendous improvement over George Bush" has yet to be seen.

Exactly what has he done that causes you to claim he is a "tremendous" improvement over Bush?

Please articulate a 4 or 5 things for us that Obama has done that demonstrate his "tremendous" improvement over Bush.

So far, he has been just like Bush....minus lower taxes, minus strong national defense, minus pro-life....

    peace to you:praying:

Rev, you must take into account the time of his presidency. He has an average rating in the midst of two ugly wars, one that most American's want to get out of and the worst economic crises since the great depression. This is also the most polarized the nation has been since the civil war. I think it says a lot for him to maintain average ratings leading during the current state of the nation.

Carter was a contrast to Ford like Obama is to Bush. That really helps.

Kennedy had the Cuban missile crises to boost his numbers.

    Eisenhower carried his WWII popularity.

    Nixon promised to end Vietnam.

None of the others listed had as much opposition from the minority party so for him to maintain high numbers with such fierce opposition really speaks well for Obama.

I agree, at this point Bush still had good numbers which went way up after 9/11. I like most American's still have good memories of our leader standing on ground zero reassuring the nation things will be okay.
