During the last 3 Republican administrations (Reagan, GHW Bush and GW Bush) they have continuously mouthed platitudes against abortion. Just what have thery actually done while holding the office of president for 5 terms (20 years)?

To my knowledge the only real change was the passage of the law against late term abortion. This is a horrific practice but it only represents about 0.02% of the total abortions. Then GW Bush, termed the most right-to-life president in history made an executive order forbidding doctors and other health care professionals to be punished for refusing to perform abortions. George Bush was elected in 2000. He enacted this executive order 8 years later in 2008 right at the end of his second term. It didn't even take effect until after he left office. Why did he wait so long to do this? Why didn't he do more?

I think the reason is that the Republicans don't want to end abortion. That would remove their hold over evangelical Christian voters. They want to act as if they want to change the abortion laws but not really do anything. THis is the height of hypocrisy.

Yup. They're as bad as the democrats & their "end all war" promises. Two sides of the same coin.

So you believe that the Republicans have done nothing much to stop abortion? Why not call them murders of the unborn as you do the Democrats?

This subject of abortion is personal more than party. It all boils down to each individuals vote, whether they be a registered or sitting democrat or republican really makes no difference.

Throughout time many bills are introduced with the issue of abortion. You would have to look at each individuals vote on each bill. Does that person support the murder of babies or not. You will find that most republicans will vote pro-life and most democrats will vote pro-murder, but there are some pro-lifers in the democratic party as well as some pro-murderers in the republican party.

So as a majority, republicans are pro-life and democrats are pro-murder.

Now you ask "what has the republicans done to stop abortion?". You will have to do some research and see how many bills were introduced and how many votes were blocked or made the bill get rejected, who caused the bill to go down or get passed.

And then there is the issue of Court Justices. How many pro-life picks get rejected or passed, who is doing the rejecting or the passing? You will find that most democrats hate pro-life judges and will drill them to death over the issue, what should that tell you about the democratic party? On the other hand most republicans will try to pass pro-life judges and fight to reject pro-murder judges.

The only reason abortion is legal in this country is because five judges did not care about the baby in the womb. Four recognized the baby had the right to life just as much as the mother. Now ever since it has been the democrats fighting to keep the murder going while republicans have fought to get the immoral descision over turned through appointments to the bench and by introducing bills to stop it or restrict it. And who is it that fights to block these measures? The democrats.

So it's not that republicans are not trying to stop it, but it is a fight with democrats trying to keep the slaughter going. Maybe you should ask yourself why the democrats want to keep the slaughter going? Is it because they want to keep their hold on the pagans?

Can you believe it, I am going to defend the Republicians on this one ... why? ... simply because there is really nothing they can do about it in any real meaningful way.

Now having said that it is and has been dishonest of them not just to admit that fact and stop using it simply as a political tool. They know without a reversal from the Supreme Court, and that isn't going to happen, there is nothing they can do ... except use it to try to gain a few votes. Even here they are loosing. Why? Because a growing number of Americans are pro abortion. This is especially true with young people. So as we older folk die off the number of voters who are pro life will reduce in number. A few brace Republicans have states that their party needs to rethink this issue.

No, I am not in favor of abortion.

    Good post, steaver.

Now consider, JC, the Democrats have in their party platform a woman's right to choice and is applauded by NARAL:

    http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/news/press-releases/2008/pr08112008_platform.html

Democrats also put a "litmus test" on Supreme Court nominees. This was reiterated by John Kerry and other Democrats like Bill Richardson, and even Obama himself. The info is out there on the web.

    http://www.lifenews.com/nat4459.html

Your statement, JC, that Bush did nothing or little to nothing is also untrue. Bush kept intact the "Mexico City Policy" instituted by Ronald Reagan. Clinton had overturned it. GW Bush kept it intact.
Obama overturned it again. Your tax dollars are being used once again to fund overseas abortions now. Does that make you proud?

President Bush Slashes Family Planning Funds, Pro-Abortion Groups Mad
    by Steven Ertelt

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- President Bush's latest budget he's submitted to Congress slashes federal funding for family planning -- promoting contraception in other nations. The decision has abortion advocates hopping mad.

On his first day as president in 2001, Bush signed an executive order prohibiting taxpayer funds from being used to pay for or promote abortions in other nations.

Preached repentance! "From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near" Matthew 4:17 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:7

This issue has been addressed numerous times on this Forum. You may try to assuage your conscience for voting for baby-killer-obama by saying that Bush and the Republicans are abortionists. The truth is that is a lie and you know it. It is true that obama is the most rabid abortionist in public office since he favors the killing of babies alive after a botched abortion.

You will have to live with yourself. Perhaps GOD will forgive you.

Here is what I don't understand, when I came to this board everyone spoke of getting Roe vs Wade reversed. We needed to vote Republican so we could get Roe vs Wade overturned.

7 of the current 9 Supreme court justices were appointed by Republican's. How will voting Republican do anything to overturn Roe vs Wade?

You're claiming that the Republicans in the United States Congress have "preached repentance?" Not that I've seen but maybe we have a different definition of preaching.

Do you understand that it was a Republican dominated Supreme Court that ruled on Roe vs. Wade? In a very real sense, the Republicans are responsible for making abortion legal in the United SDtates.

You're tax dollars during the Bush administration were used to murder tens and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi's in an unjust war. Why isn't the murder of a 3 year old Iraqi girl or a 90 year old Iraqi any different than the abortion of an unborn child. I don't support abortion but you do support this senseless killing of innocent Iraqi's. Does that make you feel like more of a Christian LE?

And the Clinton administration killed a half million. Does women & children starving to death, instead of bombing them make you feel like a better Christian ? I don't support economic sanctions, do you ? What did they do to hurt Sadaam ? How come Clinton & the U.N. signed regime change orders in Iraq, yet you still blame Bush for the war ? Does blaming the whole thing on Bush make you feel like more of a Christian ? How about the innocent Pakistani villagers killed by Obama's drones ? Pakistan didn't invade us. You blame Bush for 9/11, yet support an illegal war on several fronts. Get some consistency. Or maybe the lack of it allows you to feel like a better Christian.

It's not very likely, I would say, as long as SC justices are appointed for life [what an irony-- 'appointed for life']. They are appointed, then they beat around the bush or outrightly lie to US Senate in order to be confirmed, then their actions on the court range from reasonable consistency to betrayal in regard to the president who appointed them. Retiring justice Souter is a good example. He convinced Pres. GHW Bush of his conservativism and strict constructionism, was given thrumbs-down by leftist groups, then reversed his portrayal of himself on the court. It's good riddance-- except there is little question the candidate-to-be will be a leftist/socialist, and typically they don't go the other wing like Souter, O'Connor, most of Nixon's appointees, et al.
