I purchased The Wycliffe Bible Commentary yesterday to add to my small library. I now have 3.5 commentarys to choose from. Matthew Henry is my other 'full' commentary. I guessed the partial sets of McGee's,Macarthur's, and Sermon and Outline bible could count for at least 1.5. Do you have a favorite? Do you prefer single volumes or sets?
What would you suggest I look for next?

I love my broadman commentaries. They are out of print but if you are lucky enough to come across any you should buy them up.

I usually don't buy complete sets for some commentaries are stronger and others weaker. Two terrific commentary surveys are out there to help those searching for excellent commentaries: the Old Testament by Tremper Longman III and the New Testament by DA Carson...both are wonderful resources.

If I had to pick a commentary set I would suggest the following:
    1. Old Testament - Anchor Bible Commentary or JPS Commentary
    2. New Testament - New International Greek Testament Commentary

I prefer more technical commentaries since they provide insights beyond what more devotional commentaries offer. I would likewise commend the Baker Exegetical Commentary of both Testaments and the International Critical Commentary.

I prefer individual books. My favorite is the John Phillip's "Exploring" series.

Just an FYI.... I'm old fashioned, I prefer my books to have paper, :D I've tried putting a bible cover on my laptop, it didn't work :D

Jedi, I have volume 3 of McGee's set..Someday I'll find the rest of them for cheap. What about Mathew Poole? Anyone care for him?

Thru the Bible by J. Vernon McGee is one of my favorites. I also like William Barclay's (have to be careful though-some liberal content)) commentaries because of his practical application of the scripture.
