Sadly Spurgeon was correct as is MacArthur but the congregation must be dismissed in order to beat the crowd to the restaurant, donchuno!

The following is a true story. I have a grand niece and a grand Christian who was working in a restaurant to help pay her way through college. On Sunday noon a "dear" little old lady would come in to eat lunch, or dinner for Yankees, after attending church. she would then berate the waitresses or waiters for not attending church, apparently unaware that someone had to prepare her Sunday lunch! A vivid example of the condition of the church of today.

Anyone can say something stupid. But it takes real talent to 'raise' this to the level of an "art-form!"

Since when has preaching less lengthy sermons considered to be sin (what worldly actually means), not to mention relevant sermons?

Mr. "Grace to you" would benefit by actually holding to this mantra, and take a look in the mirror at his own "bad doctrine" he so often rails about.

Just a note: wasn't one of Paul's sermon so long and boring that a kid fell out of a window and snapped their neck; dieing?

I actually think he is pretty solid...what I don't like is his continued bashing of other pastors. All you see on youtube is "John Macarthur on_____" where he tears apart their ministries. Hardly "grace to you". So...do you think not having a long sermon is "worldly"? A relevant sermon "worldly"? It's odd that he just had a sermon on The Shack...which seems pretty relevant.

I'd rather have 25 minutes of inspired biblical exposition than an hour of "I'll read one verse and then rant angrily about everything BUT the verse I just read" mode of preaching.

I've lived long enough to tell the difference.

So what if a guy preaches a quick sermon! How long do you think Steven's sermon was to those who would murder him soon thereafter?

Have any of you ever heard a RC or Orthodox homily? 20 minutes at the most.

I think preaching should be relevant. Every message preached in the NT was.

As for length of sermon, I have sat under preachers who preached for 3 hours (J.Harold Smith), preachers who preached for 20 minutes (A.V. Henderson), and a multitude in between.

The length of the sermon is not as important as the depth of the Holy Spirit in the preacher.

And it took me a long time to figure out the difference between a sensationalistic and a spirit-filled message.

Most evangelists preach messages they have repeated dozens of times. Most pastors struggle and sweat to "put something on the table" each week for their flock.
