The Journal of Health and Social Behavior reports graduates of private religious schools more likely to get abortions than public school grads.

To keep the pregnancy a secret so as not to be considered one of the 'bad girls' that are preached about. It may be kind of like the reason that there are more closet drinkers in the SBC and LDS than in other groups.

    It is a sobering article.

I wonder if the percentage of young women who become pregnant are from religious institutions or public institutions. My guess is it will be from religious institutions. I'll have to do some researh on this.

It would be more meaningful if this article were to include some detail.

What are the "non Christian" religious affiliations?

What are the actual percentages here? For any group?

Is the difference reported here statistically significant or just a difference?

As this article is written it doesn't say much of anything.

I agree. The article wasn't conclusive about anything.

    Even the researcher said this....

A definitive causality cannot be made because people send their children to private religious schools for a wide variety of reasons. And trust me, just because a school is "religious" does not mean that they are teaching Biblical values at all.

I just don't think a link can be made between girls having conservative religious beliefs and them being more likely to have abortions.

I think you are exactly right. They would rather abort than face the shame put on them.

I think the sub-title is misleading. From the article:
The study did not examine "faith's role" in deciding to terminate a pregnacy. The study examined private, religious school attendance as it related to reported abortions.

As already pointed out by Scarlett O, people send their kids to private, religious schools for a variety of reasons.

At one point, the author admits that many years may have passed between attendance and the abortion, and continued involvement in religious activities was not examined.

And, just so there is no mistake (or intentional misleading on the subject), the study clearly affirmed that women with a conservative protestant background were far less likely to have abortions.

    From the study, itself:

Scarlett O, could I borrow your hammer and nails?

    peace to you:praying:

Are you offering your opinion here or is there some documented evidence that you are aware of?

One of the worst written articles I have seen in a while. It makes many assumptions and works to tie Tillers death to the pro-life movement without a shread of evidence just vague assumptions. This article has been clearly debunked by Scarlett.

Yet another liberal myth down the tubes.

The first two words of my post you quoted answer your question.

"religious" schools, not christian schools, makes hugh difference.
Now maybe there are a lot of abortions of those coming from christians schools, I don't know, but the article doesn't specify. So lets not fall into the world trap of counting anything chrisitan among other things of the world considered 'religious'.
Many times girls are taught the sin is having a baby out of wedlock, when in actuality the sin is having sex out of wedlock, once that sin has been committed, the sin is over, the baby is not a sin. how you ge tit was sin, but not the baby. we've made it shameful to have a baby, the sin focus shouldn't be the baby, but the sex that resulted in a baby. the shame shouldn't be having the baby, but premartial sex and abortion should be the shame.

I understand what you are saying, but the pregnancy and the baby are irrefutable evidence of the sex act that preceded it, therefore by making the procreative act taboo, it would make a girl wish to destroy the evidence. They are inseparable.

So should we take out the bans on fornication in scripture ? I think that is why it's taboo.

I never said that. I do think that many Christians obsess more on sexual issues than any other, however. There are much worse things that people can do. I also don't see how it is worse than any other transgression of Biblical commands.

The problem is you either keep you head in the sand on the facts of how certain issues are being pushed on the public or you really support those issues. But what you call an obsession is actually a response to the political imposition of certain sexual issues. You want to let them win, which is contrary to a Christian walk and there are other issues just as important.

Fact is those who support specific issues accuse those who oppose them as being obsessed. It is because of your desire for them to be successful you are hyper sensative to opposition.
