Has anybody here had any contact with this Bible? What do you think? From the press releases would this be a replacement to the old KJ Bible? Would it be accepted in a KJVO environment? Why yes or no?

Although it has updated some archaic words to modern equivalences , most of it is so close to the 1769 KJV. So, why bother? It appears to be a money making gimmick to me. It also seems to me that the updaters defend certain words in the KJV over modern versions (examples - virtue in Mark 5:30 and charity in 1Cor 13:1) using English definitions of the words instead of the Greek definitions of the words.

My copy of the KJV21 is hardback. The pages are uncomfortably thin. IMO, a good feature is the smaller page size to properly accommodate the single column line length (without being too long). Poetic passages are arranged for reponsive reading. I think the worst feature is useage of the multiple font sizes and styles: besides the serif roman type for normal narrative, a larger italic 'slab' typeface is used for words of Christ (a poor substitute for redlettering); serif boldface denotes passages that "familiar, best loved, and most quoted and memorized"; a smaller sans serif for OT that "are less familiar" (which saved some paper).

They claim to retain the power and beauty of the "original" 1611 edition, except that: for ease of reading have replaced some obsolete words with their "most exact modern synonyms" (for example: dehort by dissuade, and wist by knew); where words have shifted meaning they employ the "most exact current equivalents" (for example: meddle means mingle, and quit means acquit). They have not removed thee, thou, and the -eth endings on many verbs in part to keep "an eleoquint and beautiful part of our traditional language". Puncuation was updated and modified rules of "modern secular capitalization" used to "give reverence" to some "sacred objects".

They have included the original AV chapter summeries. There are no notes, other than sparce cross referrences at page bottoms. No book outline, maps, or other stuff. They include the superscripts of the Psalms, but not the subscriptions of the Pauline works. Perhaps the best feature is that an updated and abridged text of The Translators To The Reader is include in an appendix.
It might be acceptable in a moderate KJVO environment, but since the KJV21 was copyrighted back in 1994 it hasn't made a big splash in 15 years that I am aware of. Some hard-core KJV-perfectionists have been critical of the KJV21.

Really? I like it when a version is 'eleoquint.'

Our friend Rippon can come off as a bit of a grump at times (at least in print, I am sure he is very pleasant in person). Bit I have to admit after reading this that he at least has wit. Struck me as all the more funny because it is the type of error that I would be apt to make.
