I was driving home the other night and felt God say to me that I needed a Fresh Anointing.

I came home and told my Wife what happened to me. The first thing she said was "how do you get a Fresh Anointing?" Well I was stumped.

The next day I told the same thing to a trusted Christian friend of mine and his reply was the same as my Wife's.

What do you think....I would really appreciate some imput and answers.

Also can anyone explain what a Fresh Anointing is?

An anointing would refer to a special pouring out of the Holy Spirit in order to empower you for some type of service or task that God has for you. That is my opinion. :)
In OT times, this was done by the anointing of oil. In NT times, we are anointed by the Holy Spirit (whom the oil was a symbol of).
It sounds like God may have a task He wants you to do. He will give you the strength and power to do it through the Holy Spirit.

perhaps you need to take a couple of days, go to a spiritual retreat center, and ask God to show you specifically how He desires you to replenish spiritually.

I pray the best for you!

(and will be interested to watch this thread develop) :)

Well, since you asked, I will be the usual kill joy here.

I would be skeptical of any "feeling" about God saying something to you. Scripture tells us that the Bible is sufficient to equip us for every good work. "Feelings" are notoriously deceptive. They depend on our moods, or circumstances, etc. I have had people tell me that they felt God told them to do completely unbiblical things. It is not trustworthy.

"Fresh anointing" is not a biblical terminology so far as I can tell. The anointing of oil was a symbolic act of God choosing someone to be king of Israel. I am assuming that he is not choosing you to be king of Israel.

Anointing is never something used of ministry in the church that I can recall, apart from 1 John 2 which says that we already all have it. We are never commanded to seek anointing, as you speak of it here. That is an unbiblical concept that has worked its way in because it sounds spiritual, not because it is biblical.

So, since God has already said that the Scripture is sufficient to equip you for every good work, get in the word, refresh your soul with the Scripture, be faithful in ministry, and don't worry about anointing.

I'm going to agree with Pastor "kill joy" Larry.

I am always skeptical about "God told me....." statements. It is as if scripture isn't good enough, therefore we have to look for something more, something "special", something that others don't have, some sort of direct revelation apart from scripture.

Jesus prayed that God would sanctify His disciples in the truth. Then He said "Thy Word is truth".

It is scripture, illumined by Holy Spirit, that sets us apart, sanctifies us, makes us different from the world.

If you want a "fresh annointing", get into the Word of God. If you're already in the Word of God, quit looking for something more.

    peace to you:praying:

Wow. You guys don't believe that God's Spirit speaks to you?

Yes, we should test everything against scripture, but to say that God does not speak to us goes against scripture IMO.

I think God has tasks for me that He doesn't have for you and vice/versa, which is why He speaks to us individually. I truly believe God has spoken to me, but maybe I'm just weird. :saint:

I said I was skeptical of "God told me" statments, not that I didn't believe God communicates with us through Holy Spirit, and yes, everything must be tested against scripture, which is why I tried to focus on scripture and not "feelings".

I had a friend that went to another church. The church was considering buying a piece of property and expanding. A member came to church and told the congregation that God had told him the church should buy the property and give the seller 10K more than what they were asking. They did what the fella wanted them to.

Now, if God had told him to sell his fancy RV and use that money to pay the extra 10K, I might have been impressed. As it was, God's communication with him obligated a lot of other people to spend more money than they had to.

I fall into the category of "any communication you have with God doesn't necessarily commit me to anything".

    peace to you:praying:

I'm wondering iif a better term for "Fresh Anointing" might be "times of refreshing."

I've been increasing my time in the Word since this happened and I see a mention of this in Acts 3:17-26.

For me "times of refreshing" come from prayer, worship and Bible study when God gives me greater insight and more understanding of His Word.

I didn't say that. I think he does. He does it through the word.

I agree. God speaks to us through the Word. That is why we are to test everything against Scripture ... God has spoken in Scripture and that is how we know what is true.

God has different roles and tasks for all of us. But he doesn't "tell" us that through some sort of extra-biblical revelation. God speaks through his word.

The time of refreshing in Acts 3 is the restoration of the kingdom which was spoken of by the prophets. It comes on the heels of the repentance of the Jewish nation. It doesn't have anything to do with individual spiritual refreshing. That comes through the Word itself, not the return of Christ.

God has never spoken to me in an audible voice. I know a couple of people who say God spoke to them audibly, and I don't doubt them. But little warning flags go up when I hear people glibly saying "God to me so-and-so."

I'm going to start another thread dealing with discerning the Lord's will. If God doesn't speak to you, how do you know what is his will regarding certain things?

If God does speak to you, what does he sound like? What does he say? Does he speak American? I'm not being sarcastic, I just want to know what you hear.

Join me on the other thread.

There have been at least two times in my life I have been pressed/spoken to/moved by the Holy Spirit to seek a similiar retreat. Both of the times they have been absolutely tremendous moments of renewal that both reinvigorated me spiritually and physically. Both times were spent in Bible study and meditation, prayer, fasting, and worship. I absolutely needed these times and was so busy I would have missed it if God hadn't spoken directly to me through the Holy Spirit.

When we minimize the role and influence of the Holy Spirit, particularly because we are scared of certain language or imposed theological inflections, we deny the efficacy of the Cross.

I have had several moments in my life (not bragging here...and it is outside of these above movements) where I've heard God speak in a small, yet compelling voice in my life. Both times were tremendous moments of decision and time to stand for His Kingdom. The Holy Spirit has been forgotten and marginalized by way too many evangelicals. We've neutered the Trinity when we do so. :)

I think if God spoke to me audibly I'd jump outta my skin! I hear God confirm things in different ways like bible study,a word on a christian radio program, circumstances, other believers, but I have some say God told me this or that I get red flags too.

It isn't so much that we are sitting on our couches and having a conversation with him, out loud. Though I do pray sometimes out loud, or comment (when I'm alone) about a situation I find laughable to God and wonder what He might think.

However, the speaking is within the heart. I remember a time when I was struggling so hard to be a great christian was trying my hardest be just like the apostle Paul (was only saved about 4 months prior) but I was failing horribly. I remember coming in from school, alone (my sibling went to their friends) and fell on the couch literally weeping at falling yet again. And in my heart, as clear as day is from night, I heard/knew God said - I never asked you to be Paul, I created you to Allan. Let me just say, my view and life style was not so hard anymore because I responsible only for what God had shown me and was continuing to show me. It made a world of difference to be me and not someone else.
