When do you think abortion is acceptable?

The poll is set up so you can make multiple answers

I'm surprised 5 people so far voted "never" - not even for the life of the mother.

Now I see that 4 have voted "for the life of the mother."

But no one (thankfully) voted for one reason that is quite common - because the child is "deformed" (or handicapped). Sometimes the tests for these things are inaccurate, but people get the abortion anyway.

    Okay, how about this.

A gunman comes into a store. You are there with your child, do you let the bad guy shoot your child to save your life? ( and no, I am not being facetious)

Abortion is murder* (in Gods eyes).

Maybe thats why so many voted never!

    Salty

    * murder is the illegal killing of someone. Unfortunately, in the USA, abortion is legal, so technically, it is not legally murder.

I voted for "the life of the mother".

I feel I MUST qualify that. In cases of ectopic pregnancies or when babies attach themselves to the Fallopian tubes (or in rare cases, the abdomen, ovary, or cervix) and are going to die anyway, I would say that this would be an exception to the rule. As the fetus develops, there is a possibility that the Fallopian tubes will burst open and the mother will bleed to death.

In fact, many ectopic pregnancies aren't discovered until the baby dies anyway. Most women who find out they have one are suffering pre-rupture cramps and are hours away from serious and life-threatening ruptures.

There has been a documented case of a woman who had an ectopic pregnancy with her baby growing on the ovary. She had a normal 9-month term baby. The doctors did not know that it was ectopic until they cut her open during a c-section. The odds of this happening are literally next to impossible.

I would say for the mother who finds out that her baby is ectopic, for her and her husband and doctor to monitor her like crazy, and only perform an abortion if she is showing signs of pre-rupture, which in 99.5% of ectopic pregnancies, will be in the first trimester.

The only other case where a mother's life should take priority over an unborn's life would be when the mother has cancer or another debilitating disease that requires treatment that could possibly kill the baby.

I would say to hold off on the treatment for the mother until she just simply cannot live without it and do NOT abort the baby, but pray that the baby can live through the mother's treatment. But if the mother dies of a disease, the baby will die, too. If the mother cannot live without the treatment, then her life takes priority over the affects it will have on the baby.

Otherwise, not even in the case of sexual assault should an unborn child be aborted.

Salty, that's not the same thing.

If a mother gave up her life to save her child from a gunman in a robbery, the child will live.

If a mother dies with an unborn child inside of her, the baby dies too.

Other than ectopic pregnancies as Scarlett posted, I do not believe in abortion for any reason. Truthfully, the cases of "the life of the mother is in jeopardy" is VERY rare and I still don't think that you need to purposefully go in to murder the baby to save the mother. If a pregnant mother came into the ER with a placenta that has torn away from the uterus and the mother WILL die unless the baby is removed and the uterus cared for, they would not go in to kill the baby to care for the mother. Instead everything possible is done to save both lives. A child has a good chance of surviving if they are born after 25-26 weeks which leaves a lot of time for the mother to be cared for. Get as close to viability if possible - and deliver the child and try to save both. Abortion guarantees the death of one by the doctor's hand. It's not trying at all. There's a big difference.

and what IF someone's wife developed a very aggressive, but treatable form of cancer. She's in her first Trimester...Chemo will save the mothers life, but could harm or even kill the baby...without Chemo, she and her baby would very likely die.

I would say, save the mothers life and pray for God's protection for the unborn child.

But, I seriously don't see a reason to ever purposely abort an unborn child.

My wife developed a heart condition during her last pregnancy, and has been advised for her health will be at risk, not to get pregnant again. So, we take precautions (or I have)...If she does get pregnant, we would never seek an abortion...

I agree. I would hold out as long as possible for the treatment then either deliver the baby if we can get to 25+ weeks or else do the treatment and pray for God to protect the child.

Life of the mother, for reasons already stated.

As much as I admire women who decide to put off cancer treatments for the unborn babies, or attempt to carry ecoptic pregnacies to term.....

....we simply cannot volunteer someone else to give their life for another human being, even their own children...

I see no command in scripture to do so.

    peace to you:praying:

When my wife delivered both ours---------at the moment of delivery ---- she was closer to death than she had ever been before

    But we didn't abort

For all those who say "Abort for the life of the mother"---Think about it----at delivery---even a healthy mother is closer to death than she has ever been before

If we want to press the "Abort for the mother" issue----there'd be more abortions going on if the mother knew how close she will be "brushin' against" the door of death while she is delivering---even a healthy mother delivering a healthy baby!!!!

    What Scarlett said.

The abortion debate is the classic example of how we must be careful of our positions, and we must define our terms.

Case in point: There are those in the nation who believe abortion is an option when it involves the life of the mother. However...politicans inserted two words: "and health." That tiny addition changed everything. And it was further corrupted when the phrase was made known to also encompass "mental health."

So...our result: If having a baby will stress the mother out (you know...a "mental health issue"), then it's perfectly fine to kill it.

    God help us all.
