    By Luke Baker
LONDON (Reuters) - An African detainee held at the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay since he was a teenager has been released without charge after more than seven years in captivity, his lawyers said on Thursday.
Mohammed El Gharani, a Chadian citizen, was freed five months after a U.S. federal judge ordered him released having reviewed the evidence against him and ruled that there was nothing to suggest he was ever an "enemy combatant."

    (snip)

"The idea that it took seven years and a federal judge to sort this out demonstrates just how failed an experiment Guantanamo Bay is."

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

This kid was 14 years old when he was taken from his native country anf thrown into prison at Guantanamo Bay. He never was charged with anything and finally after 7 years of imprisonment for doing nothing (nothing that was ever charged against him or proved) he was released. Should we be proud that the world will see this as an example of American democracy?

It's too bad that the article doesn't provide more information.

I'm curious as to how a fourteen year old made his way from Chad to Pakistan.

Is there anything a 14 year old child could do that would justify placing him in the highest security prison we have with men we allege committed terrorist acts? In the US, even if he committed premeditated murder he would be tried in a juvenile court. This kid wasn't tried anywhere. He wasn't even charged with anything but was held for 7 years. This is more than inhumane. This is a war crime.

I agree. Should also be a warning to those who want to put the Federal Gov't in charge of your health care.

Oh the humanity!! That poor terrorist would just assume to blow Just Christian's head off if given the chance and mine too. The poor victim is probably even more dangerous having been locked up for seven years with other poor innocent terrorists who deserve to have their rights read to them. Please, the war crime is letting the murderer walk free.

The poor innocent babies. Those SEALS should have read them their rights first.

Sure - acts of terrorism. I doubt that this 14 year old shared a cell with anyone. In fact my impression is that everyone at Gitmo has their own accomodations. So what does it matter the individual ages of the camp population if they are not in contact with each other?

You are mistaken on this point. It is not unheard of to try a minor as an adult in serious cases.

Your use of the words "war crime" seems to be an admission that this is more than a criminal matter. That it is in fact an action in war. If this 14 year old entered willingly into participation in acts of war then he should be subject to treatment as a terrorist - not a simple criminal. Prisioners taken in times of war are not charged - they are held.

Sorry but you libbies have no room for complaint about Guantanamo any longer. Your Messiah has been courting China which has known and proven human rights violations because of money. Until you condemn Obama then you are all just hypocrites.

Who is "Just Christian?" If your child or young friend at church were locked up in GitMo for 7 years and never charged with a crime would you consider that to be American justice? Is that what our forefathers were thinking about when they established this country? Do you believe in freedom and democracy?

Uh, no I think it's you. How many different names do you post under anyway? Isn't that against the rules?

If you don't know who JustChristian is how do you know the issue surrounding that name?

I think you just messed up (again).

At least you were smart enough to drop the excessive off-topic Bush bashes.

The issue of you thinking everyone here is stupid.

Whn you can't even be honest about who you really are, why should anyone even try to engage you in an honest debate ?

The issue being that JustChrisitan was banned and is back under another name.

Obviously you are aware of this - when Revmichell brought up JustChristian's name you accused him of being that person and you also accused him of posting under more than one name.

If you are indeed truly new to the board - you would not have had the knowledge necessary to connect that name (JustChristian) to that violation (posting under a new name after being banned).

I wish that some administrator of this board would settle the issue once and for all by examining ISP addresses - JustChristian's and a certain new member who responds in much the same way as he did.

Of course if JustChristian has returned under a new name it is only a matter of time before he is again banned. After all his personality would not have changed - just the name.

If I were not who others were accusing me of being I would come out and say, "I am not so and so." So far Freedom, aka Just Christian, has made no such denial.

That's obvious. Nobody has to be here very long to learn that. But I don't think EVERYONE around here is stupid. Just a few and once again that's obvious.

    Freedom or JC, whichever.

I don't allow the use of the word stupid around my house so I suppose I will have to abide by that rule here. :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

Yup. Especially those who think they can come here under another name, and not be found out.
Pretty obvious who you are, and I'm not wasting anymore time with you. You are not worth talking to.
