How accurate is Obama's claim of 150,000 jobs "saved or created"?

They can say that again. As it has turned out so far, those estimates sure haven't applied "exactly," or even very closely.

The Obama team originally estimated, for example, that unless a stimulus plan was enacted, the unemployment rate would reach nearly 9 percent sometime in the first three months of next year, as shown by this chart, which we copied from the original Romer-Bernstein study:

But as things have turned out, even with the big spending package in place, the jobless rate shot up to 9.4 percent in May, according to the most recent figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Here's how the real, monthly jobless figures look when plotted on the Obama team's own chart, with the red dots indicating the actual rates:

The number of claimed jobs "saved or created" is simply a function of how much stimulus money has been spent.

They made a claim that "X" amount of stimulus money would save or create "Y" number of jobs.

Now they just reverse calculate how many jobs were "saved or created" using those figures based on how much money has been spent.

In other words they just make it all up.

    But you already knew that.

Good luck getting the Obama kool-aid drinkers to believe it.

    Obama's claim is completely bogus.

There is no way at all for the government to measure "jobs saved". It's just another fabrication.

Where ar the Obamanites at BB hiding on this one?

Actually, according to Biden, the figure is based on teachers, firemen and other public servants whose jobs were removed from the chopping block when the money arrived in their state.

The other part of the stimulus hasn't kicked in since the contracts had to be bid.

Now this proves another point I made, the economy is already doing better just from the tax cut given to average Joe worker. Yes Donna, the $20. Many here insisted we should give the tax cut to the rich and let it trickle down. As you can see, if you give a tax cut to a guy who needs the money he will spend it. Spending stimulates the economy and wallah...
