Yes, I know part of the article is about desginating a year in the USA as "The Year of the Bible." But that would not change people. What impressed me, or saddened me was the ignorance found when it comes to people in the USA and knowledge of the Bible, expecially of those who say they are Christian. Read on:

Wow, now that's bad. I could do better than that when I was 10 years old!!!!!! Actually I could answer all of those questions right at that age.

If one is going to promote the Bible he or she should at least know the basics. But, the Bible does allow for the death penalty no matter how liberals may twist the scripture to say otherwise.

Want to do a scary thing?

Pop Quiz Sunday. Everybody gets a piece of paper with 10 questions and a pen. The questions are simple.

    1. Name the books of the Bible in order.
    2. What is the Pentateuch?
    3. The leader who followed Moses at took the Israelites into the Promise Land was?
    4. List the 10 Commandments.
    5. Before the Nation of Israel had the Temple they worshipped in the ________.
    6. Where was Saul (who became Paul) heading when he encountered Jesus?
    7. What was the name of the disciple that replaced Judas Iscariot?
    8. Name the churches listed in the book of Revelation.
    9. Where was Timothy sent to be a minister by Paul?
    10. Name the 12 Disciples.

Now I'm not saying that salvation equals special knowledge. But come on! You've got do something with it once you have it! Maybe this is a failure on everyone's parts, including we ministers. I dunno but in a time where there are more resources available about the Bible, more translations available, and more opportnity to learn about the Bible we sure don't have enough people do anything with that.

We no longer teach the Bible in a systematic manner to children.

On this point we are in absolute agreement!

Most of what I learned in my childhood has stuck with me about the Bible. It provided a foundation that, honestly, got me through my first two years of Bible classes at my university.

What a ridiculous concept. How come the USA, who has some of the most liberal immigration laws in the world, is constantly being singled out an the meanie ?

Exodus says "thou shalt not kill", yet Ecclesiastes says there is "a time to kill"...

Seems like you have to read more than one verse to get the whole picture.

This is just another liberal attack on scripture, to twist it to fit a liberal theology.

    "Yea, hath God said..."

If Rep. Westmoreland could name them-or the rest of us could-the question is, would we still be pushing for a more biblically-savvy America? Perhaps not, when you realize what the Bible asks of us. Jesus spoke a lot, and not kindly, about the perils of money, and very little about the evils of sex. Not to mention all that forgiveness stuff, and treating your neighbor as yourself. Immigration reform, anyone? Or how about capital punishment? In 2005, the Colorado Supreme Court threw out the death penalty sentence for a murderer because several jurors had consulted Bible verses such as "an eye for eye, tooth for tooth" to back up execution. Maybe if they had read on they might have gotten to "Thou shalt not kill," or one of Jesus' many teachings on turning the other cheek.

You will find the attack in the above quote in that the scripture is liberally twisted to make it say what it doesn't. But, we wouldn't expect you or Crabtown to understand that.

I have never met anyone who was making disciples who did not have a decent grasp of the Bible. One time I started asking people in the church what they could tell me about salvation and few knew anything about the temporal aspect of salvation.

Where does it say that in the NT? Are you willing to pay more money for a death penalty case than for life in prison case?

How many errors exist because people fail to recognize the difference between commandments given to individuals and to society! "Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" was given to society. "Turn the other cheek" was given to individual disciples.
