BIBLE REVIEW #2 - The Trinitarian Bible Society Windsor Text Bible

    THE WINDSOR TEXT BIBLE KJV

    Published by: The Trinitarian Bible Society, London, England

    ISBN 978-1-86228-338-1

    This Bible is bound in black Calfskin Leather and measures 8 x 5.5 and is 1.25 inches thick.

    This particular Bible boasts one feature that sets it apart from any other Bible that I have seen, I'll get to that special feature in just a bit.

    It is bound in Calfskin Leather that is quite soft and supple to the touch, it comes that way out of the box. The leather has a matte finish that seems to be popular these days, but I have to admit that I like a glossy finish better. I am sure that with just a little use it will become very soft and limp. The binding is sewn, so you shouldn't have to worry about it falling apart after just a few years of use. Another feature that I like are the two ribbon markers.

    The typeface used in this Bible is a new setting designed by the Trinitarian Bible Society. This is a text-only Bible and it is not self-pronouncing, because of this it has a very modern, crisp and clean look that makes the text quite readable. It is a black-letter Bible, if you are used to Bibles with the words of Christ in red this may not be for you.

    Among the special features that this Bible contains are the Epistle Dedicatory, The Translators to the Reader, a Bible Word List, a Bible Reading Scheme (two years) and the Metrical Psalms. Two of the drawbacks of this Bible are that it does not have a concordance and it does not have any maps, but those are both to be expected in a text Bible.

    Now the best part. If you had handed me this Bible and asked me to guess how much it cost I would have said in the $75 range. In fact I have seen many lesser Bibles than this one sell for more than that. However, this Bible was only $32 plus shipping! I have no idea how Trinitarian Bible Society can offer a Bible bound in calfskin with a sewn binding with all those extra features, but I am glad they do.

    That is amazing. I went to their site and I don't understand the prices. They are not in $'s. Please explain.

    Also, could you explain what metrical psalms are? Do you have a photo?




    Edit; Ok, I got it. I could change the currency once I put it in my shopping basket. Oops. Did I just reveal that I am purchasing one?:smilewinkgrin:

    I just got it yesterday, haven't used it at all yet. I have been using another new TBS Bible, the Concord Bible in black calfskin. Very nice leather, better leather than any Cambridge calfskin I have seen.

    where are the KJBOs when we need them? this has gotta be the paraphrase of paraphrases!

    to the Words of God are words added, subtracted, and changed.

    seems like they allow only 2 versions to change the Words of God: the KJB (in its multiplicity of editions) and the Metrical Psalms.

    Metrical Psalms were written to be sung by congregations in church worship. It was an aid to memorization, and were never considered to be the Word of God per se.

    Many Reformed churches (especially churches in Scotland) still sing them and so when you took your Bible to church you also had your hymn book.

    Personally, I love them!

    actually, the Presbyterian church i go to sings the metrical Psalms. by the way they're announced, it's hard to know if they treat it as any less than Scriptures--"Please turn to Psalm 100"--and u get all startled when u're the only one flipping open the regular Bible when everyone else knows it's at the back of the hymnal! :BangHead:

    I didn't really know what the Metrical Psalms were until I got this Bible, I think we Baptists are missing out on something good by not using them.

    Well, I got mine today. I can't believe it came that fast! I also can't believe it was only $30! The leather is so soft. It feels like it's already broken in. The quality is excellent. I am really going to enjoy this bible. It's a great size for carrying to church!

    Glad you like it! It is a lot of Bible for the price. I ordered mine as a vacation Bible when I might not want to carry along one of my expensive ones.

    I think it is as good as any current Cambridge Bible at 1/3 the price and as an added bonus TBS gives a lot of Bibles away, so we are supporting a good cause when we do business with them.

    I agree. It is a wonderful way to get the truth of God into your heart and mind. And this coming from one who has never studied or preached out of any English version other than the AV.

    fortunately not.

    the hymns take up the bulk of the hymnal, but there are--o i wld guess--abt 30 psalms at the back of it.

    Probably because the metered Psalms are found in the Book of Common Prayer (1549 - 1771).

    Apparently, in the estimation of radical KJVO folks, the Church of England could do no wrong.

    However, from the example given Psalm 1 of the TBS does not match Psalm 1 of the 1771 Book of Common Prayer.
