    Hi,

    I'm a new member of this board.

    My name's Mathias, i'm 36, and was saved 14 years ago. I'm french, and live near Nîmes, in the far south of France.

    I was born in 1973, in near Lille (northern France), in an atheist family. My parents (and grandparents) are communists, and then, God had no place at home. I grew up, studied litterature and languages, Law at university, and finally became a computing technician, and now am a system administrator in an aeronautics company whose main job is to train french and foreign Air Forces in electronic warfare and target training.

    I belong to the french Alliance Baptiste de France (ABF), which could be considered kind of fundamentalist church (no speaking in tongues, no women preaching, etc ...).

    Since i moved to the south, i haven't found any church yet, so i decided to join this board to keep in touch with my christian brothers and sisters.

    Salut mon frere, je vien de Quebec et je parle Francais mais pas aussi bien que vous parlez Anglais. Est-ce-que il ya beaucoup des eglises Baptiste en France? J'ai eu la chance de travaille en Allemagne et j'ai eu aussi la difficulte a trouver une eglise Baptiste.

    Bonjour Brother Hamilton. Je suis de l'Université du Kentucky, et je parle anglais mieux que vous parlez français. Je comprends, il ya beaucoup de catholiques en France, probablement à quelques baptistes en France, il existe en Allemagne.

    Welcome from KY Mathias. I hope that you find what you're after here at this site. One of the most powerful preachers I ever heard was also raised an atheist.

    Les églises sont plus nombreuses qu'on ne le pense. A mon avis, la vraie différence, c'est au niveau du " type " d'église auquel on souhaite aller que c'est beaucoup plus compliqué.
    Dans mon cas personnel, je n'adhère pas au " parler en langues " et au côté pentecôtiste de nombre d'églises baptistes, et ça ne me facilité pas les choses, car elles sont plus répandues que les églises dites " fondamentalistes ".

    Translation for the other brothers & sisters speaking english :

    There are more baptist churches than you can imagine. In my opinion, the true difference, is the type of church you wish to attend to, which makes things more difficult.
    In my personal case, i don't " support " speaking in tongues and the pentacôtist side of many baptist french churches, which doesn't ease things, because these are more of that kind here, than the so-called " fundamentalist " ones.

    Wow, I would've never thought that, thanks for sharing.

    I'm probably going to show my ignorance here, but is the catholic church still affiliated with the governmet there in France? I assume it's the predominant 'christian' entity in the country and was wondering if the Baptist churches (or any other for that matter) are discriminated against because of it.

    From my souvenirs, 66 % of the people consider themselves catholics, 6 % muslims, 2 % protestants (that's where baptists are here), 1% jews, and the rest " no religion ".

    There is no discrimination, i'd say the " evangelical " churches are the most offensive, using methods i've never seen within the catholics (giving papers in the streets, treaties, singing, distributing new testaments ...).

    By the way, thanks to the american churches helping us by sending money to pay some of the pastors (and many other things), and sending people (or students) to help us over here !

    Welcome to the BaptistBoard.com Spear! Good to have you on board. I lived in France before you were born, back in 1957 through 1962, and then again stationed in France with the US Armed forces from 1964 through 1966. While there I did not find any Baptist churches, but I joined an Evangelical church and enjoyed the sweet fellowship with them. In fact, the pastor, was a contemporary of Winston Churchil and the two studied together. He had a good command of the English laguage and to the detriment of his wife and daughter, he always prefered to speak to me in English... :laugh: Welcome again!
