What do you do for a living?

    Right this moment, what do you do for a living? Do you like it? What is your special way you glorify God in your job (whether you like it or not). Did you go to college? Are you using it? Do you wish you could've done something different?

    These may come off as personal and you don't have to answer them all, or any. I'm just curious as to where and what Christians are doing today in the work force.

    I'll let you in about me:

    I have an A.A in general studies from a local community college. I have 15-20 hours undergrad in Liberty University Online but am thinking of switching schools (long story). I'm waiting on my job to start (training Monday), as a Paraprofessional or Special Education Teacher's Aide for 4th-6th grade. I've held many jobs including waitress, package handler for UPS, an assistant planner at an airplane repair station, a mechanic assistant, a substitute teacher. Some I've loved, some I've hated, and there are a few jobs I've only lasted a day or so (they are not listed). I'm a hard worker, but haven't found my niche yet.

    My favorite job I've had so far was being a waitress. I got to be around a bunch of different people, learn about people and their behaviors, learned not to judge, and engaged in many conversations about God (only if was asked or included in the conversation). I miss it but I sadly have something wrong with me as I can't stand the smell of food frying...eh...but I love working and being around the public.

    Wanting to finish my bachelors but money and the lack of passion undermine me.

    In my church I'm a co-youth leader and devotional writer and also volunteer for spiritual support on Sundays after our church at an alcohol and drug rehabilitation center. I also write a lot about spiritual condition and my own walk with God.

    those are full time jobs no doubting that! my mother was a stay at home mom, she had some jobs when I got into high school but since my dad started pastoring she's devoted herself to the church.

    1. Main paying job - livery (transliteration) taxi driver
    2. home business: Teaches the Defensive Driving Course as an independent agent of the National Safety Council
    3. Up and coming - independent sales agent for WVOA Christian Radio
    4. Ministry - Pastor of Faith Baptist

    Possibility
    I may be going back as a in-vehicle driving instructor with a friend of mine -
    We will be getting together Monday night to discuss restarting the business
    If we do, then the taxi goes :thumbsup: :wavey:

    Naturally, # 4 is my priority. With he Lords blessing, that will become a full time position in time.

    I am the pastor of the Kuyahoora Community Church in beautiful upstate New York. Upstate is the part of New York with trees, cows and snowdrifts. KCC is three years old and isn't quite up to supporting me full-time...

    The day job? I'm a bus driver for Herkimer Area Resource Center - a non-profit organization that works with people with developmental disabilities.

    I'm doubly blessed to have the two GREATEST JOBS IN TH WORLD! :godisgood:

    Great post. It is about the key issue of life -- what is the chief end of man? "The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. " Your is a valid question -- Since we spend 40-50 hours per week (or more) at our work, it begs the question - how do we glorify God at our work?

    For me, it comes down to work to working with integrity, keeping my word, making the right decisions (not necessarily the easy ones) and treating my staff and others with dignity and respect. (BTW, I'm in marketing and sales.)

    One piece of advice -- do whatever it takes (passion and financially) to finish your degree. I don't know anyone who has ever come back and wished they hadn't completed their degree though I know many who now wish they had finished it. Godspeed in your journeys.

    I have been serving in the ministry since 1988; Bi-vocational music minister for the past 9 years.

    I work for Comcast now and have been in the industry since 1997. Free cable rocks! :tongue3:

    We have a large farm and I run a small furniture company. Yes, I love both of them.

    I'm also an assistant pastor at our church and preach and teach there, but I don't consider that a "job" because it's such a passion and I'd do it even if they didn't pay me. Wait a second, they don't pay me!

    Both jobs are somewhat solitary, so I don't get an opportunity to witness through either one but typically, I try to glorify God by being honest and consciencious in my business dealings.

    Yes. I have grad degrees in history and in economics. I'm also taking classes through a couple of seminaries and am going back to earn a couple of credits that will give me a degree in Public Administration. I don't plan to use that, I'm just going because I enjoy going to school and the tuition is free.

    I never in my wildest dreams believed I'd be a full time farmer, but I wouldn't trade it now for anything.

    I am a finish carpenter. I work alone. I do stairs, regular trim work, small cabinetry, fireplace mantels, and unusual projects. I just finished installing paneling in an entry hall of a house up to 14.5 feet off the floor. If I am honoring God, I'm doing it by treating my clients the way they want to be treated, by doing good work for them.

    I have a BA in Sociology and Philosophy. I've done graduate work in Sociology and in Theological Ethics, but I don't have a master's degree. I like to think that I use my education every day. The part of my education that informs my work most directly is my HS geometry (I made A's).

    I started out to do something different, but I stumbled into this and discovered that I have a talent for the work and a good eye for what works and what doesn't. I've thought about doing other things, but I enjoy this too much.
